I've seen a lot about a lot, but don't recall anything about dental care. Short term, long term. Commercial, natural.

Willow twigs?

Rough up the end of a twig to expose the fibers more and use like a toothbrush.

Short term, oil of cloves might help a little for toothache. For deep pain, carry Tylenol 3.
Carry extra salt for (hot)rinsing, if gums get sore.
As Tigertooth said, a little whiskey is good, also for wounds, if you don't carry other alcohol.
Long term: prevention; extra time keeping teeth clean; floss; find a good, non-greedy, dentist you trust (lol), who keeps up with the latest methods, and see him once in a while.

On all our multiday excursions we carry a small commercial dental kit. It contains materials and instructions for replacing lost fillings, regluing caps and pain mitigation (Cloves etc). It also contains the tools needed for the job.

We've only needed the kit once to replace a lost filling but it was invaluable. THe weight of the kit is just over 4oz. Our's is called the "Dentu-Kit". but there are others.

One is at http://www.lakdental.com/s-cart/consumer.php3

In my own kit I also carry a single sterile Hypodermic needle. I once had an abcess develop and I was able to drive the needle into the pus pocket and relieve most of the pain. Not a fun night but over all, worth it . When we got out of the Jungle I headed for a real dentist.

The needle is also excellent for removing deep splinters and other things.

Thanks for the link. I had put together a small dental kit, but this reminded me to add a couple of items. I've had medium success with temporary fillings using the kind you mix. It must be mixed just right, or it will crumble. My dentist gave me a tube of filling replacement that worked well the one time I used it, but after a while, it dried in the tube.
For an abscess, rinsing with really hot salt water every few hours might open and drain it, but that could take a day or so, and boiling water might not be convenient.
