What about Knives and Flashlights?

I know exactly what you mean! That's what I'm a bit scared of haha. Beautiful collection, those are magnificent!
Thanks. That's my phone wallpaper pic that I took. When I posted it on reddit people said it looked like a light saber collection at first glance.

I love Ti. Two of those are stainless steel and you can feel the weight difference. Some purists will say "Aluminum is the best because it dissipates heat better than titanium" yadda yadda yadda. Don't listen to those people.Get what you like.

Watch out for Olights where you cannot change out the batteries and stick you with a proprietary charger. That reminds me too much of Apple and I'm an Android type. You want to be able to change your batteries to whatever and charge on anything. It's not the Olights are all bad. It's just something to think about.

Thanks for the insights, yeah I've heard both of those things. I think I'd like to stick with something with a common battery and charger size too. It's also nice being able to use standard AA or AAA batteries in case you run into a situation where your rechargeable battery has died but you still have some car work or something to do. I love titanium too. I replaced my Pineapple Mini Ti with an aluminum one because the Ti one disappeared from my pocket and I figured that if I lost another one it'd be better if it was aluminum, although I liked that Ti one a lot better.

The Lumintop ToolAA is good for being able to run on all types of batteries. It also comes in Ti if you want. I wish it had a usb-c charging port on the light itself, then it would be invincible. But there are a number of lights that have usb-c charging. Many times you can change the batteries then though. Always a trade off, but usb-c makes sense bc we're always around a phone charger. I haven't had loads of situations where my light died on me due to lack of charge though. If you left a light in a cold car forever, then you might end up in a situation where you needed to use your phone charger in the car to get your light going again.

edit - Caveat on new ToolAA lights. I've got an older one that doesn't have a lighted tail switch and it's perfect. I think all of the newer versions have tail switches that light up and that drains your battery. I've ended up just leaving the tail unscrewed some so the tail wouldn't light up when not in use, but that's a pain. It's tricky making light recommendations.

I substituted a magnetic tailcap for the one with the light. Solved the drain problem, but now its a twisty. That's actually another benefit of the Tool AA - it can be a twisty or a tail switch.

The Olight i3t 2 will run on AAA alkalines, NimH rechargeables or a 10440 lithium. I have a Skilhunt something or other and it runs on AA alkalines, NimH rechargeables or a 14500 lithium. The Reylights I have also have that versatility. I like the idea of rechargeables, but also like being to able to pop in some alkalines in a pinch. I bought an inexpensive charger so I don't necessarily need a port in the light or battery.
BTW, the Streamlight 1l-1aa will run on a cr123, AA, or AAA. Pretty good little light.

Interesting. Where did you get the replacement magnetic tailcap? I'd like to get one for mine. The UV version isn't so bad, bc I'm not reaching for it all the time, but it has the same issue.

It came with both tailcaps. Purchased through Amazon, shipped from Lumintop.

I need to look into that. I've still got the box and stuff. Maybe it's sitting in there right now. But that doesn't seem like something I would miss. I might have been an early adopter and Lumintop figured out the flaw later on.

The Lumintop ToolAA sounds pretty good, I like the sound of that.

That Streamlight 1l-1aa sounds pretty awesome also because I have an old scool Streamlight Pro-Tac 1L that I've had for a decade, however it's an older school light that takes one CR-123a battery. That's awesome that you can use a cr123, AA, or a lithium AA in the new one. The runtime on it looks pretty awesome too. Runtime is really big for me, rather than being extremely bright and powerful. I normally run all my lights on the medium setting (or low on the Streamlight since it only has 2 brightness levels). And then you can get rechargeable lithium AA batteries, that's pretty sweet!

Ti and Brass small.JPG
To me, Streamlights are boring. Most Al black lights are boring.

Some of the things I like about lights are the same things I like about knives. It's using different metals and making cool designs. Can you get an knife from China with D2 blade steel with black Al scales that cuts just fine? Sure. But one of those is enough. To fully explain your insanity, you're gonna need some more details involving American craftsmanship, exotic materials, nice emitters with high CRI, etc. ;)

Yeah, I agree that lights with other materials are way cooler. I absolutely love me some Ti, Copper, and Brass, I only bought Al this time with the Pineapple Mini because I lost my Ti one and figured if I ever lose the next one, it might as well be Al. Plus sometimes I put it in my mouth while I'm crouching down and checking something real quick and the Al is lighter.

I was giving black Al lights a hard time earlier, but there are always exceptions to the rule. The truth is that if you are into lights, you're gonna have some black Al. Here are some of my favorites that are worth checking out. A ZebraLight SC65c, a Malkoff from Kosen, and a Welltool LEP. The LEP is a fun one because it is a powerful beam for such a smallish light. I have a battery tube that makes it even shorter. The Zebra is all alround a nice beam. These have gone up some in recent years, but they are worth it.

Picking up a perfect Malkoff is always a nice, and they last forever. I would pick this over Streamlight all day long. Here's my preferred dealer to bookmark and you can check out how their offerings change - https://www.kosen.one/ to different lights as the year goes on.

You’re probably already familiar with Everyday Commentary reviews, but just in case you missed it: https://www.everydaycommentary.com

Anthony does an insanely focused, deep dive on knives and flashlights and limited other gear. Great writing delivering top notch information.

I love his older article on The Fett Effect.

G2’s Streamlight would definitely fall into that well-worn category.
