What about knives/knife people just makes you laugh?

I think its really funny how people carry more than one knife. I also think its funny on how anal people are about the weight.

Agree with the second. Some people wear slacks and office pants, however.

As to the first, as I said somewhere else, I have a tendency to put my knife down, walk over to somewhere else, and need a knife. I carry two just for that. If it gets bad enough that I forget both of them...well, then I may need to see a doctor.

When people spend big money for a tough EDC knife that they'll never use and only handle with museum gloves.

It is funny how every knife is now measured solely by its ability to process wood. It doesn't matter what it is, the first thing somebody does when they first pick it up is to try to either chop or baton through a tree or 2x4. Then we get a lot of crying, Wha Wha ....my machete broke while chopping through a 10" tree. Guess what, it is supposed to break under those circunstances. Whatever happen to using the right tool for the job? It wasn't all that long ago that tree chopping was reserved for the axe or hatchet, machete-like things were for light brush and most knives were either for game processing or general utility.

Actually, many cultures use machetes to take down trees and process them. A $10 Tramontina will work without breaking. It would probably take longer than an axe, however some cultures have never needed them.

I have no experience with knives, but, when I see a youtuber batoning a log with a knife I cringe  that's a job for an hatchet, But i see why they do it

The funniest thing to me is a critical attitude; like the person who looks down the end of his nose at knife owners who use sub-$100 folders, or the individual who thinks less of people who prefer a large knife over a hatchet in the woods. And then there's the guy who thinks that people who like such-and-such a knife manufacturer are stupid. And the list goes on.

Seriously? Life is short. Enjoy the hobby in the way that works for you, and let others do likewise.

Yeah, this is what makes me chuckle.
