What? Again? Alzheimer's Moment Limited Edition GAW

A year or two (could have been five for all I know) I had CRK make a custom UCGG slab and bought a large Sebenza 21 with polished blade and gold thumb lug and spacer and then I added a gold spacer bead to the lanyard. Remember that the knife was purchased after the fact. Well being a senior (and we're not talking high school here) I decided to pull my custom slab off and part with the knife. So took the slab off and placed the original slab back on the knife. This is a never used, never sharpened large Sebenza 21 as described above. As I was packing it up there it was. PROOF! That this is an Alzheimer's Moment Limited (to one) Edition large Sebenza 21.

It is to be noted that this in no way makes light of what is a horrible disease. My 95 year old father has it and a younger sister went almost full term before passing away so genetically I am predisposed. There are two rules: 1.) You must look at the two photos and guess what my moment was (which will be quite apparent to just about every CRK purest) and 2.) This is the good part...you must post a photo or at least an entertaining story of your own "moment" for all to see.

The winner will be determined by three Blade Forum members who are also friends outside this forum. So I can only hope that they are lucid when they vote on and determine the winner. Anyone can join in but please don't post comments. Take a guess, post a moment and have a good laugh at my expense. The four of us are still laughing.

THIS IS A GIVEAWAY, no strings attached. Upon being informed of the winner I will PM them for a shipping address and send the knife USPS Priority mail. Enjoy a chance at one of the best folders ever made and good luck.

1. The birth card was switched?
2. My moment is pictured below. After getting a few solid edges with my DMT stones, my memory failed to remind me of the several failed attempts prior. I had just received a brand new CRK Umnumzaan with a less than acute factory edge. My newfound, and poorly reminded, confidence with the stones convinced me to go ahead and thin out the edge. While I did end up with a nice edge in the end, I proceeded to scuff the lock side thumb lug and sharpen back onto the choil of the knife. My memory of such previous mistakes hurried back with impeccable timing after these errs. :)

I'm in! Thank you! I actually just placed an order with CRK for this exact configuration of Sebenza, so this would be all too perfect for me!

I'm in.
I'm guessing the actual birth card is from another knife or you wrote on the original. The Either way the card doesn't match up with the knife, being a regular large 21 that doesn't have the unique custom graphic on it.

My "senior moment", although I'm only 38 years old, actually just happened not too long ago. Although I don't have pics of the actual moment I do have quite the story and a picture attached for good measure. I was a selling a few knives on the forum and was shuffling around all the different addresses and packing everything up. So I head down to the post office and mail my packages out. Well I get home and start thinking about how I packed everything and something just didn't seem right and I had a bad feeling. Here I had mixed up a couple of addresses while I was packing because in the process I was trying to calm down a barking dog and pack up several knives. This was about 5 minutes before the post office closed and I had a friend down there that I called immeadietely. So we ended up shuffling thru packages after hours in the back of the post office to find the ones I was sending. Luckily we found them and i was able to fix the mishap but it was definitely a fiasco getting things straight. Luckily I had friends in the right places there. So that was my "most recent" moment. Lol.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to get a great knife. I was in the process of saving for a large 21 and selling off some other knives to help get it, so this would be great. I will hold off selling anything else until this is decided. Have a great night.

Oh, and he's sorry for causing such a distraction that I almost had a big mixup on my hands. Lol

Ahh! I'd love to participate, I'm in. I remember doing many presentations on Alzhemier's throughout my early school years. I grew up with family members and a really close neighbor who battled the illness, so while it was really emotional, I truly enjoyed doing the research and spreading the word. The Sage 3 also happens to be my favorite Spyderco... wonder why? ;)

1. You sent in the wrong birthdate card with the Sebenza that was getting the custom UG done. As a result, the card now says "Custom Unique Graphic" for the Sebenza with gold accents.
2. I'm pretty young still. Lets say under 25 so my memory should still be pretty good. HOWEVER, I have this bad habit of always putting my Sebenzas on my lap when I drive. They're just so beautiful that I take them out of my pocket, admire, put on my lap, and admire again whenever at a red light or something. Anyways, eventually it goes back on my lap and I ALWAYS exit the car forgetting this.. Today was like 12th time this year (probably more). I'm fine with it getting some wear and tear, but these damages are just due to my negligence. =( Lets just blame it on the Alzheimer's today.

Today's damage with the brand new knife I got yesterday:

Yep! And thanks for giving us an opportunity to continue creating awareness for this illness. Hopefully we'll find a definite cure one day.

Well, since we don't always have photos I guess the panel of judges will accept a good story behind the "moment". And I know all about distraction.

Yes. Distraction they can be. Lol. That's quite the cute little guy you have there as well. They are definitely a full time job. I just inherited "Baxter" the 13lb Bichon/Lasso Apso from my brother who moved to California a few months ago. While they bring joy to everyday life, they can definitely be a distraction and sometimes even cause "Alzheimer's" moments.

Thanks for the opportunity!

1) you went ahead and added "Custom Unique Graphic" to the original birth card. oops now it doesn't match anymore.

2) my moment: I was opening a few packages when I got home from work. One of which had a new Spyderco Dragonfly. I left my new Dragonfly open on top of one box (that was on the counter) after using it to open the others boxes. After a few minutes I went to clean the boxes and forgot that I had left the Dragonfly on top of the boxes....it fell down on the porcelain floor and I broke the tip :(

1. As mentioned, the birthday card doesn't match anymore!

2. My most recent moment happened yesterday. I am in the process of restoring a vintage "lobster" knife, and was working on it when I should have been sleeping (or just paying more attention lol)
Before shaping the handles I was going to glue them to the liners so everything matched up. Well...I mixed the 5 minute epoxy up and started gluing, and then realized that I glued the handles to the wrong side of the liners!!!
Luckily for me it had only been about 4 1/2 minutes so crisis was averted! I quickly sanded off the excess glue and labeled the sides of the liners like I should have done in the first place:thumbup:

I did not take a picture of my mistake, but here are the parts right before it happened! In my head I am still picturing those pieces of cherry wood in the wrong place...

Keep them coming ladies and gents. It costs you nothing other than a good laugh at some of our "moments" as we all think about how we should have known better.

In any case the birth card does not go with the plane scale. You either removed the scale from the wrong UCGG knife or the cards got switched. You said the knife you had the custom scale made for was like 2-5 years ago and that card is one year old.

Here are two of my senior moments. Both are not knife related and don't have pictures of it happening.....

I am 54 and have been diabetic for more then 20 years and have been using insulin for the last couple of years. I take between 13-20 units of fast acting insulin with each meal and 28 units of 24hr slow acting insulin each night. I thought I was giving myself a shot of 28u long acting insulin and when I set the pen down I noticed I just injected fast acting insulin. I really got into a panic then. I decide I need to eat a bunch of carbs to keep me from going low. I also stay up for the next 5 hours that the fast acting insulin can have an effect for to watch for going low. I normally keep the two type of insulin separated in the house to try and not do what I just did, but I still managed to mess it up that time.

Many years ago we had two houses we lived in Washington State and had a house in California. We had been renting the California one but the housing market had finally gotten so that we might break even on the mortgage and would be able to sell it. I drove down alone to get the house cleaned up and painted to sell it. When I get to the house it had been broken into and the sliding door had been open and some trash in the living room. So after getting things all closed up good I went to go find some dinner. I close the front door and the door knob was locked and was about to lock the deadbolt and I panic. I thought I must have just locked the keys in the house and I was stuck outside with a car I could not get into and spare keys 2000 miles away. The car had the new style keys that had a RFID chip in them so even if a copy is made it still would not work with out the programmed in chip. So I go to call my wife to tell her how I screwed up and I find that I had my keys the all along in my left hand. Its not like putting them in the wrong pocket but to lose your keys in your other hand is really a senior moment. After the two day drive to get there and the break in I must really have been brain dead to not notice I was was holding my keys as I was searching for them.

1) No custom graphic on the knife, but it says there is on the card.

2) So many senior moments for me, and I'm only 32! I recently thru hiked a rugged 170 mile trail in Southern Illinois, and I think my senior moment was partly due to exhaustion. I had set up camp for the night and had two bottles of water set out, one clearly labeled "dirty water" and the other clean water. My intent was to boil the unfiltered water to use for my food and to drink the the clean water. In my haste and thirstiness, I downed one bottle quickly and boiled the other to put in my food, only to immediately realize I had drank the dirty water! Although it could have turned out very badly for me, I managed to avoid getting sick!

If I wasn't a judge for this GAW i'd be all over it! I'm surprised we don't have more members involved yet!
I find it hard to believe you guys don't make any mistakes! [emoji23]
Your "moment" does not have to be knife related. Don't have a pic? Let's hear the story!

Another story for everyone to read. This one is an "Oh shit" moment compliments of my sister in law Abby.

A few weeks ago my nephew was graduating high school in Northern Michigan, about a 7 hour drive for us. My wife loaded our 3 kids up and when I got home from work we hit the road.
I had a Small 21 incoming that I purchased from padad24al due to arrive while we were away.
Abby (wife's sister) had good intentions and picked up our mail as promised on Friday.
She put our mail in a grocery bag, tied it, and placed it on the floor in her kitchen. Her and her husband were leaving on there honeymoon to Jamaica the next morning at 2am. Since it was a holiday week garbage day was pushed to Saturday...see where this is going? [emoji16]
Abby's husband Doug got up around 1am to load the car and decided to take the kitchen trash out before they left for the airport. He assumed the grocery bag on the floor was garbage and threw it away. Here's a screen shot from Abby's text to prove it!

I was rather upset but not as upset as they were. An honest mistake and life goes on. I obviously didn't accept any money from them either.

I'm in - Thanks! (Oops! A second Alzheimer's Moment :)) I forgot to add that the wrong card was sent out with the knife.

On a Sunday afternoon my wife and I were driving to the Honda dealership about 30 minutes away in separate vehicles. We needed to drop off our van for recall work scheduled for that Monday. I was to pick her up in my Vapor Metallic colored Mustang (thus my forum name). I know the way very well. So I am driving along listening to tunes without a care in the world; it was a beautiful day out to boot. After a while I'm like- wait a minute! - this isn't the right way! I had driven past the turn I was supposed to take at the halfway point. I had driven past this turn without realizing it for over 10 minutes. It actually took a couple of seconds for me to recalibrate where I was headed and how to get there from where I was. Boy, was I embarrassed and very sheepish when I finally got to the dealership and explained it to my wife. Of course she had to sit in the parking lot of a closed dealership until I got there.

Only had this knife a short time but I loved it. On the very first camping trip I took it on I lost it. I must have left it somewhere along the trail. Currently saving for another, hopefully whoever finds it will use and appreciate it for years.
3-thanks for the generous opportunity for such an iconic blade🖒

Well apparently I don't know how to get the pic to show but the link seems to work.

1- Birthcard doesnt match??
2- I dont have a pic, but my most recent moment was when I shipped a knife out to a personal friend. He received it and called me immediately with concern. Apparently I forgot to put the actual knife in the box! Checked the gun safe, and sure enough it was sitting on the top shelf. Easy fix, bought another box, packed it all up, and shipped it out. Now my buddy is happy!

As a critical care clinician this is now considered to be one of the top priority diseases in the U.S. And the numbers keep growing. I commend you, sir, for your courage and fortitude. And may you see another 50 in good health.

1. Looks like "Custom Unique Graphic" was added to the birthcard, thus not making it correct or original. So incorrect birthcard is my guess.

2. Not long ago my wife ordered a pizza for dinner. She handed me a $50 bill and said "I ordered the pizza, it should be here soon, Im going to go take a bath." Well shortly after I hear a knock on the door, and when anyone knocks on my door, chaos ensues. All 3 dogs proceed to barking like a herd of cats is at the front door, and my three kids run to the door yelling "Pizza! Pizza!" So between trying to grab the pizza without letting any dogs escape, and amidst the yelling and barking, I hand the driver my $50 bill, say Thanks and shut the door. No sooner than I set the pie on the counter I realize what Id done, and run to the front door to try and catch the driver. Well, as you can imagine he probably saw what Id handed him and GTF out as soon as possible with a $30 tip. Definite case of absent mindedness.

Thanks for the opportunity! This is indeed a great measure of generosity.

Great stories, guys! Keep them coming. Like WTLJ, I am one of the judges for this GAW, so I feel compelled to post a story of my own, which coincidentally involves WTLJ (Terry).

Terry had sent three rather expensive knives for me to check out and then pass along to another forum member which Terry and I are both friends with. Well, a few weeks earlier the other forum member had purchased a gun from me and somehow his shipping address got changed in my address book. So, once I was done checking out the knives I boxed them up, printed a label and out the door they went......to his gun dealer. D'oh!
Luckily everything was straightened out after a few days and the other member got the knives to check out and Terry eventually got his knives back.

As a side note, I think what Ghostwalker54 is doing here is a great opportunity for someone and it is very generous of him to do. Generosity is something that I know brings a smile to his face and warms his heart. I cannot say enough good things about him.

Bump, everyone should get a shot at this, plus all these stories make me feel better about myself
