What am I doing Wrong?

Gravelface,

Straight Handled Battle Mistress's are out there, the problem might well be that the price of a user has just about met the price of a Safe Queen.

If you like the Sooooeeee Knife, then just take a Whack at it, or with it.

The last few I have seen are Both priced about the same and at least one of the two was a Beater knife, lightly used,One of the first 300, but a Beater knife none the less.(Not mine)

I think the market might be down a little right now, so the knives sit waiting for a rebound to appear.

While $1,500.00 seems a bit Steep for a user/Beater knife, that does seem to be the case for now and the direction this particular knife seems to be headed for, because at that price they suddenly become available.

I have only two right now, One of 300(My Beater) and the first Straight Battle Mistress I ever got(Oct 17 1999) my Back up beater Neither one is for sale, so that might be the problem, the beaters you get to attached to to sell, and the Virgins are to Rare, yet it is the Virgins that tend to make it to market cause the owners "Know Not what they are Selling" Having never partaken of that particular Sacrament.

He's probably just looking for the perfect BBSHSH to use as bait...

Say, did you ever find anything else out about that SHSH variant you picked up a couple of weeks ago?

Dan

Yes, I got conformation from Jerry that he did the mods and it is INFI.

A couple of years ago I picked up one of the Extravaganza Mystery tube knives which ended up being a SHBM on the forums cheap. It has been my user chopper and is the perfect knife, .280 thick and a great feeling handle. Sure, I could maybe triple my money, but I would never find a better knife at the low price I got it for, that is the problem I see in someone trying to find a user, people just don't want to sell the SHBM users. It is just a matter of getting lucky in finding one that someone doesn't know what they have and getting it for a good price. I know this isn't really what you wanted to hear, but I felt the same way and have a been able to find a few knives I was looking for.

Similar story as randucci on the SHBM. Low, low price is the reason I won't sell. I'd never find another deal like it. I slipped in just before the SH prices really started to take off and bought a complete set of straights. I'm sure the seller made good money on them since he got them directly from the Shop back when they were available. Recently, I wound up selling off three of the straights for fair prices and managed to cover my original buying price for all four. The result is that I basically got a free SHBM. It's still pristine, but the fact that it cost me nothing will be the one thing that'll enable me to put a beating on it when I finally take a notion. That time is coming around my very next camping trip.

I have to disagree with this. IMO.... I really hate it when people bug me about a knife 6 months after I bought it. I haven't sold a knife like this yet, nor will I, out of principle. IMO, It's really annoying. I don't mind people sending me random email because they know I've been on this Busse forum for a while such as: Are You or do you happen to know if anyone is selling so and so?

4A. to do this: look for threads that have the blade your looking for that is marked as "sold", if the thread states who won it, email them or private message them through bladeforums and ask if they still have it, are willing to sell it, or know anyone who has one for sale, or who has one in general.

That kind of falls under the "use tact, stay legal" bit. Persuasion is literally a fine art, something that takes social skills, the ability to read the person your dealing with on a social, emotional, and personal level wich can be very difficul via text and emails. For me I can generally tell when a person at the very begginning of starting to get annoyed, there are a lot of verbal and physical signs that come up quickly that are easy to see if your looking for them. But with emails it's sometimes impossible.

I said that as something of a jest, Trying to give a severe example of "effort" when money and time are not in the equation. A more tactful way thats respectful (then the example I gave) would be to simply state "if your every looking to sell it, Please let me know first: money is not an object with me concerning this particular blade" and essentially drop it from there, keeping the email/contact information on hand should it come up again later on.

as people have said here, one of the best ways to find what your looking for is to stay watchful over time. keep checking the forums and ebay, every now and again people sell stuff at really low market prices. And theres always the random back stock offerings that come up from jerry :) - "luck favors the prepared".

LOL,

The Emails, PMs, and Phone calls I have recieved in the last little while after the post I just made.

I had a guy track me down a few hours after i bought a knife on the exchange -- wanted to buy it from me... His initial email offered me 200 dollars more than what I paid a few hours earlier ( i didn't take it because i thought it was unfair to him -- but I eventually sold him the knife for a more reasonable price.)

But my point is, I was not at all offended -- that's not the kind of email that should easily offend anyone! If you want it bad enough to make a GOOD offer, there should be no offense taken. He very well may not sell, but I doubt he'd be offended by you trying to put some nice cash in his pocket...

Gravel, you'll get one --- and I hope it's everything you want it to be! I can't tell you because I've never even held one!!! But I can tell you the BM-E isn't bad at all ;)

Let me clarify that I find it annoying. Many don't, and I won't get mad about it or anything, but I probably won't bother replying. This is strictly my opinion. I guess I should probably just be quiet at this point. :foot:
Because I guess I would make exceptions for my friends that I have on this forum. OR if someone really put up a good story, and a good price as to why they HAD to have it in their collection.
I once had a guy who offered me a horribly low price on TM BM, and basically expected me to sell it to him because he thought it would be the perfect knife because he was going to the jungle. He didn't bother asking politely, I guess he thought I owed to him because it was the perfect knife for the jungle. Whatever.
Xaman.... Point taken. Thanks.

I guess I have been doing it wrong.

My emails usually go like this:

You better sell, or else... and then... untill it breaks... I won't be able to get my deposit back...

Have a nice day.

p.s. I love your avatar.

every ebay auction I've ever put up, I state at the bottom "I will not ship outside of the united states, NO EXCEPTIONS."

and yet, every single ebay auction I've ever put up, I get at least 2 people who ask "can you ship this to china?" "can you ship this to spain?". Likewise, for the high price items, I always get one person telling me that "even though this thing retails for 2,400$, theres no way your going to get that much. These never sell for over 600$. I'll give you 550$ for it when you end the auction early. I'll be sending a check tommorow.", right after my own searches came up with an average price of 1,800$. Note: not "if your willing to end the auction early" - "WHEN you end the auction early.

Theres definitely a right and wrong way to approach how you ask to buy something. Some of my auctions have left my skin crawling for days because of the responses I get from buyers.

I've used your tactics LVC. I just try to be polite about it and most people give some good information at the least and we have a couple interesting emails. It's good entertainment at worst.

The only time I get annoyed by people emailing or pm'ing me about a knife is when they're rude or send me a rediculously low offer like they'd be doing me a favor. If they just ask me a question the same way I'd ask anyone else, I'm ALWAYS happy to respond whether it be with helpful information or a deal in progress.

Sorry Jason. I made the mistake of selling my 1/100 SHBM and only through the kindness of several HOGS did I get it back. Sometimes they just mean too much to part with.

I've sent messages to sellers who say CONUS only for shipping to see if something can be worked out. Being up in canada, it can be frustrating to try and find harder to locate items that are mainly in the US or even common items.

My normal offer is to cover all shipping costs and make it clear to honestly declare the knife on the customs forms. I'll deal with paying the duty. It is just part of the cost of getting blades! So far, most sellers have been fairly receptive to it.

It is usually a matter of the planets not lining up...when I have money (still usually not enough for a SHBM) there are none available........and when I am flat bottom broke....a few appear.

No worries Walking Man.....I won't harass you. I want some of these BADLY, but I am of the thought that if I wait long enough....everything becomes available ....at some point.

Here is to Hoping for those 2 Blades!!!! Users preferred !!!

I dunno... I think I probably shouldn't have posted anything in the first place. But I'm glad that the politeness and tact issue was brought up.
Anyhow, I don't have what you want anyway. Sorry.

How about the Birds Beak SHBM the second one up from the bottom?

the rest of us ducci's know that porkducci does not have all those shbm's anymore:D

Ok...I used to think I was a resourceful individual....I could find (even if I couldn't afford) most Busses I was interested in........but now I am getting down right dissappointed in myself. (Could be because I have been drinking and a on the verge of being intoxicated:D ) But for the life of me I cannot find a SHBM....I know GregB just found one,,,and I know another fellow who has found SEVERAL!!!!! What am I doing wrong! I have come to terms that the 10" BBSHSH is a myth/sasquatch/loch ness/cuppacarbra/yetti/perfect10 and I will never get one, but the SHBM while uncommon is not rare and I should have been able to track one down in the last year......am I just not putting forth the effort....do I smell funny....what is it? And another thing......SHBAs......WTF!!! Where are they...I have been so close to 3 of them only to have them yanked from under my feet like the floor in some Indiana Jones flick only to end up in the proverbial Busse Black Holes.......Spread the wealth!!!! Let some of us try these mythical blades.....I would love it and beat it and pass it on before I let it collect dust in my safe(dresser;) ) Please, tell me what I have to do to get one.....that's all:thumbup:

I feel for you. I bought this user a few years ago for a fair price and I cannot imagine selling it for what some hogs and pigles have emailed me offers for ($800++++)
