What am I not thinking of?

I believe in visualizing goals. Right now, my "goal" is a nice knife for myself once I'm on the other side of everything going on in my life right now.

To be specific, think upscale, gentleman carry, 3.25" or smaller, feels very premium, fun to hold and use, great slicer and light EDC, not murdery.

If I had to pick tomorrow, it'd be some flavor of non-Damascus wood Mnandi, to give you a starting point and a budget.

But, what else fits in that category? What am I not thinking of?

I've had my eye on the ZT0562 or a Hinderer slicer for years; not exactly small or gentlemanly, but I've got bigger hands and I want one. Still, not appropriate for work going forward, so I'm leaning to pull them off the list.

A small Sebenza Insigno might work as well, although at that point I might just dress it up into the Mnandi, and I'm concerned the large is too large for my actual use. (I've also never seen a CRK knife in person. I swear you all just photoshop your pictures.)

I held a beautiful Benchmade 761 from my local dealer - fantastic feel and action. I'm seriously considering the 765, although the clip carries higher than I'd like, and the blade has more belly than I tend to like, I think.

I keep looking for midtech options, but I'm not finding anything else that really fits in the category. So, I turn to the hivemind - what *else* would you get that fits the profile?

Planning for the future,
Mike

Oh, and yes - there have been a couple of 3" gentleman's carry threads lately which I have also been watching with interest, but they haven't seemed to address this angle particularly. #didmyhomework

Check out William Henry and a Spyderco Air.
Good luck with the road you are on.

Get a CRK TI Lock while they are still out there. Falls in between the small and large sebs. I have XL hands and a small is too small for me. It's also mechanically different and fairly non threatening. Good luck whatever you decide!!

The Lionsteel TRE might be an option, I think it straddles the line between "tactical" and "gentleman's knife" quite well. It's very nicely built, too, I have the cheaper G10 version and it's not too far behind my Sebenza in F&F. It is on the smaller side, though, very comparable to the Small Seb.

The Shirogorov NEON comes to mind though the wood scaled MNANDI would be pretty awesome. I would not vote for a Hinderer or ZT.

I would encourage you to check out the knife makers for sale forum. There are some very beautiful custom knives to be found there - not all costing over the top $$s - if you are patient. The regular "customs knives" individual for sale forum has some good offerings too.

Good luck. Have fun.

You gotta forgive Tyler...he gets so hyper with those beautiful Rocksteads...and he even USES one. Who ever heard of hard use on a super-expensive, beautiful blade like that? But Yeah, his taste is GOOD.
Now me, I'm a bit cheap, so my Rockstead equivalent is the Brad Southard AVO. I carried one for two years; it is a midsized Midtech of impeccable ergonomics and blade design. Really nice.

These are great ideas, folks; some I had thought of and give second consideration two, and others I didn't know about. Thanks so far!

If I had the money to throw down right now, on any three folders, I would be looking for a Boye winged lockback in BDS, with a great handle material, as well as an Olamic wayfarer one-off, or wayfarer 24/7 one-off, followed by a Sebenza, (though the Olamics might be a little too "murderery" for You? ;))
