I finally got around to sanding the black coating off of my spec plus SP-1 marine combat. I had been wanting to do it for a while because the coating was REALLY beat up. It was scratched, scuffed, chipped off, etc.

I used 220 grit SiC sandpaper. It left a pretty decent finish. The coating on these things is thick! It took about 1 1/2 hours of sanding to get it all off. It still has some coating right near the handle, but it's good enough for me.

AAAARRRRGH!!! It's Angelfire that's messing it up. I'll find a different place to post the pic on Monday. Sorry!

Is the coating used by Ontario on the Spec Plus different than that used by Camillus and KaBar? Been kind of wondering if should consider removing the Parkerization or whatever, from my two Camillus somewhat modified KaBars that I have for "survival", then apply TufGlide many times. Does anyone think that the TufGlide would last any decent amount of time, or with considerable use? Or would I just be better off leaving them as they came? I also have a true KaBar USMC fighter, but think I'll leave that just as is for sentiment's sake.
