What angle for PUK?

I have used the Police Utility for cutting some string, paper and tape. Light stuff easily. I then used it exactly once to cut up 3 of those annoying empty Postal Priority boxes from knife shipments. It didn' t slice too well due to its steep single edge bevel. Additonally, the plain portion of its edge dulled quite quickly! It did come fairly sharp though. In any case, what is the angle of it edge bevel? I have taken it to a 204 Sharpmaker (the greater angle) but to no improvement. Actually it created a dull burr, if that' s what it is on the bevelled side. Touching it up on the unbevelled side did not help either. So...

Just got back into town. Sorry.

Add to this the fact that I have no idea. Derek would be better suited to answer the angle question.

I do know however that you need to "strop" the off side to remove the burr. This can be done with leather from an old belt or cardboard.

Nakano,

The angle is 20-25 degrees. I use the "color in the edge with a black felt tip pen so I know where I am taking off material" trick and a sharpmaker on all of my knives.

Stroke on the left stone only until a burr develops all along the edge. Strop the blade as usual to remove.

Good luck.

Welcome back Derek. Done tried that method. Maybe I did something wrong. I did however, stroke the "off side" ever so gently once in a while to help remove any wire edge from developing. But the "burr" is a bit thick and dull. Perhaps I need to try a different #of stroke ratios. Thanks.

Nakano
