I have some twist damascus that I'm going to forge into bar stock for guards and pommels. The only problems is...

I don't have the faintest clue what sizes are commonly used.

Any suggestions fellas?

Thanks!

Dan, I like to stack 1/8" and 1/4" material with spacer material in between, whether it is vulcanizd paper or thin SS,NS, brass or coppper. Very seldom use larger sizes like 5/16 or 3/8".

I also use mostly 1/4" x 3/4" stock or 1/8" X3/4" and some 1/4"X1" for bolsters.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking some 3/8"-1/2"x1" for the bowie guys. Should I try for wider like 1.25?

The bar I have right now is too large for those sizes but I'll write down the suggestions for future use.
