What are some good carbon slipjoints?

I'm looking for a new slipjoint, here's what I had in mind...

Blades: Carbon at a higher end RC. Would like a clip blade and wharncliffe / sheepsfoot (Stockman works, but I've got 3 already and would like a two or single blade model)

Scales: Natural materials. Bone, wood or stag work for me.

Size: Anywhere between 2.75 inches to 3.75

Company: Something other than Buck or Queen (Nothing against either, just want to try out a new brand)

Any suggestions?

Boker comes to mind, their carbon steel blades are 1095. I don't know that they have too many wharncliffe blades though.

Moore Maker
MM Whittler #5306 Yellow Jigged Bone
Two clips and one coping (close enough to a sheepsfoot)

You might check out this Case Copperhead in dark red bone with a wharncliff and pen blade. Not exactly what you're looking for, but pretty sweet.

I have no idea. But if I was in the market for a new slipjoint I'd get one of the Queen Classic trappers or canoes in 1095.

That Boker looks nice. I just ordered a MooreMaker small stockman in yellow bone. Should be here any day. I'll let you know how it looks. I know you crossed Queen off your list, and it's d-2 anyways, but that little stockman in that red delrin is one nice knife. good luck

Case texas jack? It's a clip and pen though, not a sheepsfoot.
You might try browsing Case's website, you will be blind by the time you've seen every knife they have. Most of the carbon(CV) is in red bone, yellow, and amber bone though.

There's a store near me with a good selection of Case. I'm going to go there and to Gander Mountain today and see if I find anything good. I know the latter had some attractive stag peanuts from Case last time I went.

That's not bad, but this one catches my eye more.

The scales and size of the knife make it appear to be a comfortable one.

I have one of those Bokers.

It is one of my favorites. Nice knife.

I have a Boker stockman with washboard bone handle scales. Good knife, but edgeholding isn't the greatest.

I agree about the edge holding.
I've a Boker stockman, 2 trappers, canoe, barlow and whittler.
Still nice knives.

Thats a fairly tall order Vivi. A custom would fit the bill. More Maker has a Stockman (other than being a stockman) that fits your description.

Well, which one of the current producers of factory knives would you give the nod to on edge holding in their carbon steel? (Queen, Case, Boker, Fighting Rooster, Great Eastern) I've been collecting several of the Great Eastern knives and wanted to try one of the single blades. Just don't see much use if it does not do any better than my yellow handled Case CV.

I have a couple Great Easterns and I think they are great. They come pretty sharp out of the box and they are very well made. Nice solid feel to them.

I'd take a Great Eastern over a Case anyday.

A D2 queen will hold a great edge, unfortunately they are known for coming with pretty dull edges. I have a Boker sodbuster that holds a good edge.

Bokers are a great buy. I like the whittler posted above. EBAY has them less than $20. I may get a stockman. I have a Barlow and Copperhead and am very pleased. I just bought a Case Sodbuster Jr CV which will be my first Case carbon knife. My Moore Maker whittler (Queen) is beautiful but pricey. My Moore Maker muskrat (Camilus) is ok. I am getting a Queen Canoe in 1095 for Christmas.

Case CV is pricey given the delrin handles. With Boker you can get bone, celluliod or wood. for 1095 avoid the Magnum (China) line.

Does Queen make a stockman in carbon, 1095? thanks

I haven't seen a stockman, but here are some canoes and trappers. I just picked up an Antique Green Trapper, and the fit and finish is excellent. The blades need a few licks on a stone, but the grinds are even, the blades are centered, the polish is perfect, and the bone scales are night and tight to the bolsters.

I carry a Moore Maker 5301. It's a good looking knife with the honey pick bone and it seems like it holds an edge a little better than a Boker. Personally I like the CV that's in Case.
