I am trying to find the smallest compass out there that is reliable and durable any suggestion.

Must be very small and durable

I recently asked the same question. I "splurged" and went with a Marbles pocket compass. A little more expensive than some of the others, but the brass enclosure really seems to hold up well, and the accuracy is fantastic.

I have one of the suunto clippers and it is far superior to the "standard" button compasses I've had in the past. It's accurate, easy to read, dampens quickly hasn't developed a bubble despite being exposed to drastic temerature swings (I live in Michigan where the temperature regulary varies by 100 degrees or more in the course of a year - it was 1 degree on my thermometer when I left for work this morning). It fills the role it was intended for very well, imho.

I'm looking for a small compass as well. So far the ones I have looked at are the Suunto clip-ons($20),Sun cord lock($4) and Marble's pin on/pocket($20).

I have had 2 Suunto button compasses that -20 degrees burst. It was outside my pack at the time.

I paid 24 + shippign for a Tru Nord.

Source for this price?
I've heard great things about the one made by Pyser but @$35 I would want to try one first hand before buying several.

Sorry, it's been a couple of years since I purchased mine. At that time both the model 100 and the 150 were $17. I just visited TruNord.com and the prices have indeed increased to $24.95 plus $3 shipping. Still well worth the price imo.

I just got mine in the mail today actually, it works well and seems really durable.
