What are some unknown knife brands?

Puma Knives maybe? German company, no idea about the quality or background, I imagine same level as Boker. Haven't really paid too much attention to their catalogue but the pop up now and again.

Unknown to who? The average joe? The members here? Its really hard to say, since I don't know what you have not heard of, but going on your join date, I suspect you've read about most of them.

I think you mean lesser known.
The only ones I can think of are the up and comer Chinese brands making mostly Ti framelock flippers.

What about some of the ones we have been seeing here from
Bulgaria, Poland, etc, and some nations you do not think of as having a cutlery tradition? Like Kosa PL?Daado?

Do not forget about JD Ware in Merida, Yucatán Mexico, I think an
American living and making knives there. He had a folder lt for sale on the folder exchange.

I'm going to assume you mean "just here in the General Knife Discussion sub-forum of Bladeforums".

Le Thiers. French company with a long history, but very little presence here in the States.

Svord, out of New Zealand. I think a lot of people know about Svord, but you don't see pictures of them in threads.

Imacasa, Tramontina, Condor. Not EDC knives, so that may have something to do with it.

TOPS Knives. Some of their stuff is very... specialized, but some of their smaller knives could be carried everyday. I think TOPS gets a lot of scorn because they dispense Kool Aid with their advertising. If you ignore the "Our knives are hard core for Oper8tors!" wankery (and the various iterations of the Tracker), they have a couple viable designs.

Puma is high end, high quality. At least for those that are made in Germany.
I don't know if they have different lines made elsewhere, like Böker does.
Compared to the made in Germany Böker TREE BRAND, both are high end.
However, Puma is best known for lock backs, while Böker is best known for slipjoints.
I believe that both make excellent "classic"/"traditional" fixed blade hunting knives.
As far as I know, neither makes a "modern tactical" fixed blade.

"Unknown knife brands"... for the average person, if the knife brand is not displayed in Lowes, Walmart (or WM type stores), Home Depot, or the local hardware store, they're unknown. You have to move to the more specialty stores to find anything beyond Gerber, Case, Frost, SOG, Ozark Mountain, and Victorinox (at a few places).

How about Muela, Nieto, Joker? Nobody ever talks about them. They are made in Spain. I have some of their larger knives, 9 inch blade bowies. They are invariably stainless, probably equivalent to 440A or B. Not for extreme use but for general camp use, they'll do very well. Prices are pretty affordable, but you have to shop around for a good deal, which is in the 50-60 range for the most part.
