What are the BAD things to cut with a knife?

People. Doing that will separate a blade from its owner real quick.

Me. Attempting this is generally considered unhealthy for a knife owner.

High speed machinery. Metal-on-metal especially is associated with a high proportion of penetrating injuries to the eye.

Things that sharpen steel. Ceramics and stone and synthetic waterstones will dull a blade real quick, just as they'll sharpen one quickly if applied at a sufficiently acute angle.

one of my old friends tried to cut through a concrete cinder block with a spyderco police I sold him. It didnt last long. The edge that is. He got about 2" into it before it just wasnt even creating dust anymore. But he resharpened the knife and still used it. Though it was a plain edge by that time. Sad thing was it was literally 3 days after I sold it to him. When I asked why he did it he said it was his plan all along. He knew how much I liked the knife and wanted to see how bad I would squirm.

dude that sucks!

Corners. I've seen so many knives where they cut corners and they are damn near useless.

I had a friend like that. On one hand he was the best friend ever, on the other, the worst! He even tried to break up my marriage. Guy was sardonic.

He's gone now. Permanently. :( RIP Dave, you miserable bastard.

Thanks for the tips guys. Some of this stuff I wouldn't have thought twice about. Tyvek? Interesting.

I am at my soon-to-be in-laws' house and I know I shouldnt post my first thoughts in answer to the thread title...
