What are the benefits of a sm. FB over folder knives?

This is a riot... it's like my dog and my cat arguing over who was gonna get the steak cooking on my grill...

Not everyone can carry around a fixed blade all the time, so for that guy, his folder is gonna be the best knife... for many, it's a choice between a folder or no knife at all...

Ok, so take your $300 Strider knife and I'll take my $50-100 (or cheaper) fixed blade out in the wild....why even bother with a Strider??? What advantage does it have over a fixed blade when this knife will be in your BOB? This is turning into a lame thread:rolleyes:

Hey, Mutt, why do you imagine this is an argument?

Cause neither one of them are getting a goddam piece...LOL

Like there's no winning this dilemna...

I recall the discussion started out as what is best for his BOB, which by definition is what he's going to grab under dire emergency. Under those conditions, when failure is not an option, my opinion is that it's a no-brainer: fixed blade wins. The only question is, which one. Pack an additional folder too, or even better a good multi-tool, but not as a substitute. And I don't think a folder with a saw blade even comes close to a fixed blade and a baton.

My mistake... I forgot about the Bug-Out-Bag part...

I agree with having a fixed blade in there along with a few folders.
