Hello,

I am new to the Blade forum and I thank anyone in advance for their help or advice.

I have been an avid knife collector for roughly 25 years and now in my 40s I'm beginning to have an interest in knife design and I also would love to learn how to make custom knives and create my own pieces.

I have no intentions what-so-ever of starting a business. My concern is solely as a pastime and for personal enjoyment. So, with that said.

What are the best books to read, instructional, history of or otherwise and to have as part of a personal library. I'm interested solely as a hobby. So which are the most popular of the published books about learning knifemaking & blade-smithing? Amazon has a few with 4-5 stars worth of reviews, but I wanna hear it from the people in the know.

Once again, thank you for any help or advice.

Welcome to the forum, littleRJ17. The best books for you depends on what type of knives you want to make. There is a good book about making folding lock back knives Title How To Make Folding Knives by Ron Lake, Frank Centofante and Wayne Clay. Also for more general information The Wonder of Knifemaking by Wayne Goddard has some good but dated info. I would recommend starting HERE and read the sticky threads. Best of luck on your knifemaking adventurers.
