There must at least 1,000 questions being asked about knives, knife hobby, custom knives, knifemakers, etc.

I have been around here that long compared to others since Bladeforums first started, so what are the five most commonly asked questions?

Anybody has any idea?

the most commonly asked questions I personally get asked by people are something like

'you already have loads of knives why do you need more'

'can we talk about soemthing interesting now please' :O

'how do I unlock it'

'why the hell do you carry that thing around with you'

'is it sharp?' (duh no I carry a blunt bit of steel in my pocket for fun)

etc etc

"What are you carrying?"

(Where people list about 25 different knives, etc. that they are carrying daily in addition to a handgun IWB. I don't know how they fit all that around their waists, why their pants don't fall down, if they actually walk or run anywhere, and what they do for a living. I carry one tactical folder and sometimes a Swiss Army plus my house keys. I think those threads are ridiculous).

The number one question I seem to hear with knives (or guns) is:
"What do you need THAT thing for?" :barf:

Either that or "can I look at it?"

I'm usually alot more abliging to the latter.

David

Another one:
"Why do you like knives so much?"

Don't they understand? The reason is...um..well... because! That's why!

Y'all forgot the most important and most frequently asked (OK, by some of us) question:

Where can I get the money to buy that knife???

"HOW MUCH ???!!!!!"
and
"Why do you need a knife that sharp for ?"
Yep. I also get the "How do I close it ?"

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking...

The top five questions I've been asked, as a knife afficionado?

"Who're you going to kill with that?"
"Where do I get one of those?"
"What do you use that for?"
"Isn't that illegal?"
And "Why do you carry more than one knife?"

The top five questions asked on bladeforums? Top being most popular, let's say?

"What's the best grip for self defense?"
"Are tip down knives better or worse than tip up knives?"
"What are you carrying?"
"Should I buy this knife or this knife?"
And "Are serrated edges (or half serrated edges) a waste of money?"

#1 I am a maintenace mechanic for a county goverment, responsible for all building and equipment maintenance, #2 I wear a belt so my pants don't fall down, #3 I don't run,(see #1), and I use various blades for different things throughout the day so by carrying an assortment of knives I'm always assured a sharp blade. also working with 15 guys, in the shop someones always asking to borrow a knife, and I always have a spare.

PS You don't see anyone making fun of your reply do you?

One of the most common questions that I see here is, "Is the Sebenza a good knife?"

At least once a week it pops up.

I'll second JamesA's first choice. The "Who're you gonna kill with that thing?" line or it's many variants are what I hear most often. For some reason people think it's incredibly witty and they also think they're the first ones who ever said it.

Leave a book about Ted Bundy laying around your work area and then you'll hear some real gems. ;)

Ones I see posted quite a bit are, "what's the best knife?" and "Should I buy a Sharpmaker?", or variants thereof.

I was JUST about to post that!

As for the "what knife shall I but"...usually it's "I want a knife with a,b,c,d,e,f,g features that does h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o things for under $100...what knife shall I buy"

"Is that a great big knife in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"

I get that all the time. Seriously.

1) Who are you going to kill with that?
2) Why do you need another knife?
3) How do you open/close this?
4) Is it sharp?
5) What did it cost?
