What are the diffrent grits equal too for all the diffrent rods?.
DMT xtra fine is 1200 grit.
So for example what would the grit be on a ultra fine rod etc?.

bit difficult to compare the grits it seems but people have said the ultrafine is around 4k

I would guess the mediums are around 1200 and the fine around 2k but I could be way off

The Spyderco Medium stone is 20 micron, gritsize 600 in the US, and gritsize 1000 in Japan.
The Spyderco Fine stone is 6 micron, gritsize 1200 in the US, and gritsize 2500 in Japan.
The Spyderco UltraFine stone is 3 micron, gritsize 2000 in the US, and gritsize 4000 in Japan.

Is gritsize correspond to flats or corners?

So are the ultra fine rods worth the money in your opinion?.
I can already get my knives shaving sharp but i dont have magnification and cant see how polished the edge is.
Also just out of intrest what grits are the diamond rods?.

Not to me. After the medium/fine stone on the Sharpmaker, I strop on a leather belt with some Flitz. Makes a nice finishing step.

Hmmm...never thought of using Flitz on a strop...interesting...thanks!

Ray :)

The ultra fine does make a difference on fine grain steels and CPM steels like S30V and S90V but I also have a OCD sharpening problem.

kwackster , thank you! so, diamond replacement sticks similar to dmt extra extra coarse (diamond stone)?
