What are the most reliable flashlight brands for AAA and AA?

I had a problem with a Quark and he wouldn't fix it because he couldn't duplicate it. I ended up selling it at a 50% loss because as soon as I got it back the problem was worse. The new owner reported the same problem. (I sold it with full disclosure of the problem)
I won't be buying from 4 Sevens ever again.
Surefire works for me.

Surefire don't make AA lights theirs are all cr123. .

That is not correct. Surefire has recently started to manufacture AA lights. With their E2L AA entry id say that Surefire makes the most reliable light, based on my experinece with their other models.

Like joeninja, I tend to buy the least expensive item that does the job I need done. This isn't a keychain light. I've had my Craftsman Tool Light for about five years now and it has yet to fail me. Battery life is good and it still has the original bulb.

$8

Industrial quality. Completely sealed body. Uses 2 AA batteries sold separately. Water-resistant, can be used in rainy and other wet conditions. Sealed on/off switch for protection from dirt and moisture. Super bright Krypton bulb provides high-intensity light where you need it. Shatter-resistant polycarbonate lens stands up to heavy-duty use. Heavy-duty rubber sealed body for superior durability and long life. Built-in strap for easy, convenient carrying. It weighs 5 ounces on my digital scales, so it isn't a lightweight, but I have submerged it (including in salt water) and beaten it without mercy and it still works like a champ. It isn't gearhead fodder, but it has given me excellent bang for the buck.

I have one of those little rayovacs, I edc it for close to two years! Not the best, sure, but for $3! It has finally started to flicker, but for the abuse it took not bad at all. I recently replaced it with a fenix E01, this was my first fenix light, and I am more than impressed for $15. I've owned streamlights, inova, and many store brands (as I will callem ;) and Ive never felt a light of this quality. I was so impressed I just ordered a fenix E21 q4 neutral white. Sounds good to me, two aa, 135 lumens 2 hours, 48 for 11. I'm hoping it will be the answer for a dependable outdoor light, for hunting and hiking, as the op was looking for in a aa light.

i bought a 1 aaa keychain light from walmart
Flashlight_product_BRSLEDKEY-BMF.jpg

it a rayovac and has a lens over an led kinda like ledlenser
the light was comparable to the NANO
so say 8+ lumens as the nano says they push 10
twist on off 1/4 inch longer than a solitare and slightly wider
note do not get the solitare until they make it led
and the led replacements make it cost way too much and you cant fully tighten the solitare reflector
for 3$ i was completely satisfied with this light
i opted for the nano for size as i carry a lot on my keychain but the nano dosent fit the bill for normal batts

of course there are superior 1 aaa lights for more money but i found this light to be more than acceptable for all but tactical aplicatons

I just got one of these for 25 clams. I highly recommend it. Plus the guy who owns the company is reachable. I emailed him a question around 9pm NM time and within an hour or so he had responded. This guy gets my flashlight business. That and I will run my mouth about his product and service to anyone who will listen. Check out his other lights as well.

I got a Klarus ST20 from Going Gear about a week ago that is so far proving reliable and tough. I haven't dropped it off a cliff or anything like that yet but I have actuated the buttons over and over again and it did spend some time in the Tennessee River last night while I was testing it out for water resistance.

This was just about a foot of water. One with and one without flash.

I had been looking for a good, bright LITTLE light, that I could carry with my Leatherman Wave (in the Leatherman nylon Wave belt pouch), and yesterday, after ALOT of research, I ended-up buying a Fenix E01 from a seller at eBay. I think I made a good choice.

Where did you get a pouch with that holds the Wave and a AAA light?

I highly recommend the Maratac AAA from Countycomm. They're cheap--about 20-30 bucks depending if you choose aluminum or stainless.

Bright, too, with great runtimes and 3 modes:

18lm Output for 4 Hours
1.5lm Output for 50 Hours
80lm Output for 48 Minutes

Very durable little light, as well.

 I've dropped my Maratac AAA and my keys more times than I can count. It still works great and is my most used light. I'm probably going to order a handful more for gifts, backups, etc.

Ya , but the maratac light (and Itp a3 eos) isnt regulated , or is it ? Does the light dim as batteries lose power , or does it stay consistantly bright until batteries are depleted ?

Regulated current is one of the coolest features in modern lights

It's just the standard Leatherman ("new-style") Wave nylon belt-pouch that comes with the Wave. This pouch has a stretchy side pocket on both sides of the pouch....(Same with the leather Leatherman Wave pouch.).

I haven't found this to be a problem, if anything it gradually let's you know you'll need to charge or change your batt. soon. I prefer that to having it die real quick. Maybe I'm missing something.
In my both my Maratac AAA and Nitecore D10 I run rechargeable 3.6v batts. so I never let them run all the way down anyways. I think the Nitecore might be regulated but either way isn't an issue for me.
