Name the 5 must have knives you think a true knife collector or blade junkie must have. And out of the 5 which do u have.
Para 2
Xm-18
Crk sabenza
Buck 110
( at least one zt )
I have two of the listed, zt and para 2

Para 2
traditional folding blade
SAK
fixed blade for wood processing
Sabenza

I don't own a Sabenza

I don't believe there are five knives that a person should have for a collection, due to grind, lock, and blade shape preferences.
That said, if I had to pick 5 knives I want by the time my collection is done, they are as follows.
Opinel no 8.
Mora of some sort.
Svord peasant.
SAK.
BK2.

I own an Opinel.

I'm pretty easy to please.

Marcinek hit it on the nose but I'll play...

CRK Sebenza
BM 710/707 Axis
Spyderco Gayle Bradley
Hinderer xm or Hinderer ZT 550/560
Limited edition grails to anticipate and hunt (ex. cbcf, PM2CF)

Production only? Or customs?

Spyderco Military
Benchmade AFCK
ZT0560
Emerson CQC8
Umnumzaan

Spyderco Techno
Paramilitary 2 Sprint
Ritter w/scales
Curtiss Nano or Boker
And a custom of any sort, gotta stray outside of mass production to really have an affliction.

I think the only must have knife in any "true collection" is one that the owner actually uses. It'd be a damn shame if you had hundreds of display pieces and didn't use a single one.

I really only need three after three years of reading, watching, buying, and selling. This is were I have ended up.

no slipjoints? buy a case xx peanut with chrome vanadium blades and chestnut jigged bone inserts for less than $50. from there you can move up to the high-end northfields for less than $200. and then bid for vintage 1940-1970 case xx jacks in mint condition going as high as $300, depending on condition. lastly, try the top custom makers who use 154cm blades and whose dinky little pieces can go as high as $1,000.

Post is too obscure to be taken seriously.
Really, what does "true collection" even mean?!?!

Damn, a 200 knife 'collection' of knives I love, and not a real collection, Damn you Sebenza and Paramilitary!!!!!!! Of course, I don't like the Sebenza..... crap! I'll never be a collector!!!!!!

Admitting your flaws is the first step.;):D

I don't see how you can narrow down what a free thinking individual should collect.
I mean some folks collect custom kiridashis, some collect Moras.
My own "collection" is all over the map.

Name the 5 must have knives you think a true knife collector or blade junkie must have.
Ones that will retain their resale value so that when you realize that you bought them not because YOU wanted them but because someone else on Bladeforums said you should buy them you won't lose too much money.

Or better yet, save yourself the hassle by thinking out your purchases first and only buy what YOU really want not what others say you should own.

I don't think there are 5 must haves.
The 5 that make my accumulation most enjoyable are:
Large Sebenza
Curtiss Nano Liner Lock
Spyderco Chokwe
Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air
Spyderco Paramilitary 2

Should EVERYONE have those knives? Of course not. They should have what they like and enjoy. That's what makes a true collection.

I'm partial to the PM2, XM-18 3", large Sebenza, Strider Sng, and my Umnumzaan. Of course, it's reasonable that everyone's list is different. Be grateful. Otherwise, we'd all be chasing the same knives.

For the basics to build a collection on:

~ Buck 110, or a clone of it (U.S. Schrade LB7, etc.)
~ Tactical liner-lock.
~ Traditional multi-blade slipjoint.
~ Multi-Tool (Leatherman, SOG, etc.) or Victorinox SAK (Soldier, Huntsman, etc.)
~ Classic hunting or military fixed blade with stacked leather handle, like Marbles or Kabar #1217.

My collection is all over the map too and thats how I like it:thumbup:. Of the 5 you mentioned I still need to aquire an XM-18 and Buck110. Different strokes for diff folks, and if we all had and liked the same stuff what fun would it be:(

Everyones must have is going to evolve with collecting.

I started out with ZT0551 (x2) and ZT0560 both in Elmax. Moved on to Paramilitary 2 (XHP, M390, S90V, 20cp). I thought about the Sebenzas but decided to skip to the Shirogorov midtechs. When I collect enough of the Shirogorov's I will probably move up to custom collector's pieces.
