What are the must have knives needed in a true collection

These two is def must in my opinion:

Spyderco Manix Original
Benchmade Skirmish Origial

Name the 5 must have knives you think a true knife collector or blade junkie must have. And out of the 5 which do u have.
IMHO there is no such thing like "five must have". I do not see any reason to buy any super classic if I do not like it. But probably I am not a collector, I am just having a fan with my knives. True collector probably need to have at least one of each lock type, one of each slip-joint (trapper, doctor's and so on), various handle materials (FRN, G10, micarta, CF, SS, Ti, Al, bone, stag, woods, corals and so on), fixed blade like: fighting, camping, hunting and so on. So probably we are talking about few hundred......

One slipjoint each with:
Mammoth ivory scales
Titanium titanium scales
Desert ironwood scales
CF scales
Stag scales

"Must have" is just an expression one shouldn't take literally, at least that's what they taught us at English courses.
Well, if I was a collector I would focus at one category, SAKs for example (where 500 are not enough) or I would select notable knifes, such as folders:
An Opinel No8
A Victorinox Swiss Champ
A Buck 110
A Laguiole
A Case Congress (yellow)
Or military folders:
A Victorinox Alox Soldier pre 2008
A WWII German Paratrooper
A French Legion Etrangèrs
A British Navy
A German Navy
Or fixed classics:
A Kukri
A US Marine Kabar
A Puuko
A Mora
A Yatagan

Etc, in other categories

What are they?

The five knives that individual likes most. That's a true collection!

^^^ This is the only real answer. If I collect folders I won't have much use for a Randall and a BM42. If I collect balis I won't need 3 dozen CRK's............ You get the idea.

I don't consider myself a collector so much as a fan. Mine are all over the map also. While I have favorites like my large Sebenza, Spyderco Endura, Old Timer 580T my dad gave me and various Buck folders these are my choices and may not appeal to others.

That said, best get yourself a Sebenza and you can thank me later.:D

I agree with what marcinek says about individual preferences. It all depends on the person, are you going to collect knives to use or to sit in a safe? I live in northern Canada, so the PM2 is nice for when I'm outside as it can be opened with gloves on. So I need a folder that can be used with gloves. You might not. I work in an office, so I need a smaller folder for work. Again you might not. So my personal must haves are as follows:

1) Folder that I can use with gloves - PM2
2) Folder thats appropriate in the office - Small Insingo
3) Large fixed blade for camping - Bark River Golok
4) Medium fixed blade for camping - Ratmandu
5) Small fixed blade for edc - Magnum Bear Cub / Rodent Solution

But because I'm sick I have more than these of course. YMMV

I don't think there are 5 must haves.
The 5 that make my accumulation most enjoyable are:
Large Sebenza
Curtiss Nano Liner Lock
Spyderco Chokwe
Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air
Spyderco Paramilitary 2

Should EVERYONE have those knives? Of course not. They should have what they like and enjoy. That's what makes a true collection.
