What are you afraid of?

I get sweaty hands from watching movies where people are climbing. I didn't have much of a problem on any of the obstacles in boot camp though. I constantly have dreams of driving a car up a hill and it flipping over.

I'm afraid of the police, every time one gets behind me, my heart starts pumping, and I get nervous, even though I'm not doing anything illegal.

I'm afraid of losing my knives.

I'm afraid of the government, their constant double standards make my head want to explode, and it worries me greatly that the people in control are so dumb some times.

Spiders...I KNOW that if someone were to toss a large spider on me, that I'd be dead of a heart-attack before I'd hit the ground...

I'd rather face King Kong on crack before I'd have a spider crawl on me.

I read this article one time where it was talking about the most frightening things that ever happened to people. One participant said that he was lying in bed and staring up at the ceiling watching this HUGE spider crawling overhead. He said, just as he thought, "Wouldn't it be awful if..."

Yup, you know it. ;) The spider used it's super, silky spider web to make a tactical descent onto the gentleman's face. Apparently, it enveloped his whole face. Ewwwww!!! :D

I'm somewhat claustrophobic. Ok, so that's a lie. I'm deathly claustrophobic. If I ever get stuck in an elevator, I'd be the one curled up in the corner, crying my eyes out.

i haven't met anything in my life that really scared me to the point of becoming phobia.
The only thing that comes close is beeing on fire. I have been in a few fire's as part of my job and visually saw 2 kids burn in a housefire, i could not reach them due to the extreme heat but i had direct vieuw in the boys bedroom, we had to cut their molten bodies from the metal bedframe the next day for forensics.

I also arrived at the scene of a car crash when the car ignited, i will never forget the sound the victims made trapped in that car.

So my phobia would be burning alive and full contious.
If i would be trapped in a building fire and know that i would die anyway i would inhale deeply so i would pass out before the flames got to me.

peace

I'd be in the closet, hiding. Oh, and I'm afraid of men who get violent around me. I'll run and hide. I love small, enclosed, safe places.

I fear death, i try and be brave but if i think about dieing too long i get panic attacks. Sucks hehe. I also fear nuclear war, i have very bad apocolpsye dreams. And for some reason Aliens scare me, i keep waiting for one to pop its head around a corner when im alone. Sucks too~ When it does im gunna be ready....

Don't be afraid of death...it will happen to all of us...for some sooner ,for some later...why would fear something which is inevitable...although personally I have never experienced such fear of death I have become aware (truly aware) the fact that I will die oneday and it sucked a lot (btw I was eating my lunch on two of such occasions and I lost the appetite immediately)

When I was younger, I was afraid of dying to the point where it would give me panic attacks just thinking of it.

Now I am somewhat intrigued... I no longer believe that you cease to exist after you die. Energy can't die, and that is what I believe we all are. (Energy, frozen light, etc.) I have looked into nonduality and Buddhism very much over the past few years, I suppose in an attempt to understand things and get over that "fear", and it has worked. I do not WANT to die, of course, but I am no longer afraid to die at all. The only thing that scares me is the people and animals I would have to leave behind.

Spiders, cockroaches, etc don't bother me, but grasshoppers freak me the hell out. No idea why, they just do.

yes, your body's matter is immortal, because matter can't be destroyed...it only changes its form...

btw what do you mean by nonduality ? that you don't make distinction between matter and spirit?

I believe that "matter" as we see it, as the things we can see and feel and acknowledge the physical existance of... is not what we actually ARE. Bodies decompose and, in turn, will feed other life-forms. This is how we all exist. We aren't separate; "god" (all of us) has separated ourself into as many possible different things/lives, in order to understand everything we can possibly feel. There is no other way for us to understand everything unless we can experience it, and no single one of us can possible experience everything. And I think that THAT is why we are all so different... not only humans, but all animals.

I believe that we are not our bodies; our bodies are tools, just as knives are tools, which allow us to function and move and breath and communicate. Other animals communicate just as well, but in other ways. None of us is more important than anyone else.

This site: http://www.puresilence.org/ was the first I stumbled upon that actually made a little sense to me. Initially I thought it was cheesy and "religious" or something, but I was wrong, and after reading some of the stuff he wrote, that is what made me want to look into other sites on this kind of thing.

to ashes:

I would say that's mainly buddhistic or/and hinduistic view on the world. That all living things are different and countless manifestations of Brahman if I remember correctly. But I think that doesn't mean we are all the same.

I know somebody who was into Hare krisna, he also said that "we were not our bodies" however I disagree with such view. I see my body as who I am,more or less. To believe we are not our bodies is in a fact a dualistic view, making distinction between a body and a soul.

Thanks for the url. I will check it.

im afraid of god, church, and situations that could get me fired from my job.

im being searious, my life has been hard the last 2 years. i had every thing and now all ive got is my job and somebody is trying to get me fired from that. :(

1. Heights-i can't stand heights. i can't even go near the railing at the mall.

2. Closed spaces-i can't handle small lifts. I always imagine getting stuck in the lift and having diarrheoa.

3. Cockroaches- oh god, i don't know why but those furry little legs creep me out. if even a small one were to land on me i'd be screaming like a girl, running around.

4. Little girl ghosts-there's something about a freaky looking little kid that terrifies me. I think this started when a little girl got exorcised at my house. Freaky kid. 12 years old and she suddenly began talking arabic and in a different voice.

5. Nursery rhymes-I swear i'm never gonna teach my kid nursery rhymes. In kindergarten the only one i knew was London Bridge. At the end of the day the teacher always asked each student to sing one. If another kid already went through London Bridge i'd be puking. I still remember the pink puke i had on my white t-shirt. Damn those nursery rhymes.

Ladders.

Waterbugs aka palmetto bugs, giant flying roaches.
Step on one and get a skateboard ride.
ugh.

I used to be scared of snakes.
A gal I knew had her snake with her (on the way home from the vet).
I asked what's in the pillow case and before I knew it I had a snake draped around my neck.
Amazed that I didn't freak out, I realized thay they are pretty cool and my fears were unfounded.

I'm not a big fan of bats either. Especially since one landed on my chest while in a canoe, in the dark.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
Definately not cool like the snake.

Watch the movie "The Grudge" if you want to $H!T your pants on your couch. Yikes, those little kids can be scary as heck.

The Walmart near me used to have a ride-like machine for little kids. It looked like a small ice cream truck you sit inside. It has a "demo mode" it goes through every few minutes and it sings nursery rhymes in muffled child-like voices...from an empty truck! It didn't actually scare me, but every time I walked by it I thought for sure it must give people the creeps.
