What are you? Collector, user or collector/user?

When i buy a knife i buy it mainly because of their aesthetics and materials.
I mostly don't need my knives in my everyday tasks but i always edc one just in case:D
When i read posts and see YT videos people talk about their knives and there's always some that are, what you call, "Safe Queens".
Well, i don't have any!
All of my knives are users even if i have to make up stuff to do with them:D
I can call my small sebenza 21 my beater knife!!
What i mean by that is that it's the one with more use, believe it or not, even though it's mostly for food preparation.
The 21 is the most expensive knife i own, still, i have no problem using it instead of my delica or mini grip for instance.
I believe i can call myself a collector/user.
What are you?

Thanks for looking:)

I like to buy knives to use. Sometimes I get more than one of a knife that I particularly like. This duplicate is kept and won't be used at the moment but it will be there to be used if something happens to my user knife. I guess what I have is not a collection but an accumulation.

Wow! I guess I can't call mine an accumulation then.

There are no formal rules about it. ;)

But here are the guidelines I use:
A set of knives that can be grouped together because they share a common characteristic (brand name, pattern, handle material, etc.) is a Collection.
A bunch of random knives with little in common is an Accumulation. I'd guess that most long-time knife enthusiasts end up owning a wide variety of knives and other bladed objects.
For myself, I use the random number "25" as being an Official Collection. I have a Collections of Schrade Old Timers and Bruckmann knives, but I need a few more to have a Victorinox Collection.
If the knives are used, they are Users and can't be part of my Accumulation or Collections.

Like I said though, these are just my own personal guidelines.

I have so few.
That's no problem. There are BladeForums members who bought their first knife last week, there are some of us who have been around a while, and there are some who have been around a long time.

Say a person is 40, they started collecting/accumulating when they were ten years old, and bought only one knife per month on average, they would now own 360 knives.

Happy Accumulating!

Collector/user; but I usually favor about 3-4 of my folders so most of the collection doesn't get used too often. The fixed blades come out a couple times a year.

i would say collector. most knives i have i havent even used to cut paper. i keep using the same few i have for years to cut stuff open. i will admit i neglect my users. i once used my delica to open something glue on it. i didnt clean it for a few weeks and it was a pain to remove. googone wouldnt work i ended up using sand paper.

User/collector I buy knives to use, when I find one I really like to use I buy 3 r 4 of the same knife. The first 1 to use the rest for my son and spares on case of loss, breakage, theft, etc. While I've got a few knives now it's only 5 different models.

Ive got about 20 knives or so (folders and fixed) and i do use them but not as much I as want to because 1. I live in a suburban area where Id have SWAT teams pulling at my house the second I pull my knife out and 2. I work a lot so I dont have time to use them. Planning to really do some hiking upstate every sunda by myself or my brother when my schedule stabilizes. BUt yea to answer the question, Id consider myself more collector than use though I do use them whenever I can.

collector/user. I always buy the knives I like and use them but if I really like them I usually buy another and just leave it in the box.

My knives are like my guns - I buy them with the intention of using them but only end up using a few. I don't have anything I wouldn't use but I have a bunch I don't use.

User, for the most part. I can't bring myself to carry a sprint run/limited edition to work because I'm a roofer...and the gunk that accumulates on my beaters is more than enough for me to balk at.

definetly both...
Like you i use my seb 21 (small).. for EDC.. i cant bring myself to EDC any of my other numerous knives... although i do like to throw my 710 in my pocket "incase".. ;)
