...to celebrate the 75th anniversary of when beer became legal after prohibition?

Sure, the ratification of the 21st Ammendment was not until December of 1933, but FDR, in his wisdom, convinced the Senate to legalize 3.2% beer on this date!

So--watcha drinking?

Oh, what am I drinking?

Hair of the Dog Fred from the Wood, from 2006. Basically an outstanding Barleywine aged in new oak barrels, brewed right here in Portland!

Cheers!

I am not from USA, but that reason for some drinking works for me! Let’s drink some beer and Glenlivet! :p

Bought a few cans of these for some delicious "beer can BBQ chicken" that I had for dinner tonight. I had no idea there was a reason to celebrate!

This was my first time trying this particular brand. I couldn't find any Grolsche, which is what I'd normally use (mmmm) so I figured, hey why not. It wasn't too bad! :D

Well I just had the entire women's team over for dinner. We did have beer. Also scotch, wine, port, and sauterne.

What a bunch of HOGs.

Thanks TonyG!

Nice to see someone else was on the ball to celebrate!

And thanks to the 2 people not from the United States who partook in the celebration. You guys are outstanding :D

On that day it was some Rogue Shakespeare Stout- to start off with. Warshed it all down with some Bookers. Mmmm.

Bruce, a question to you, as the beer King of our great state- do you know the first establishment to legally serve alcohol, post-prohibition, in Oregon?

It's the McMenamins in McMinnville, The Hotel Oregon. I have mixed feelings about that company, and its beer, but before I entered the real world, I bartended there- and took great pride in that little factoid.

This weekend was the first time since prohibition that you could buy beer and wine in the grocery store on Sunday in South Carolina. Now no stampede of drunks to the grocery store Saturday night before closing. So, Sunday I bought some Canadian Ale and had it with a pork tenderloin for supper.

There are some really silly laws out there. Good to hear you have the right to buy beer and wine 7 days a week now!!

That is very interesting--would not have been my guess by any means.

McMenamins typically are not my favorites. That being said, I used to live about 3 minutes from Edgefield and spent a lot of time there. The beers are certainly drinkable, but are not anything remarkable (for the most part).

They have done a lot for brewing establishments and craft beer in Oregon though. I think the non strip mall locations are great--revitalizing old structures is very cool and a wonderful draw. Out of town visitors always seem to enjoy going there.

My sentiments exactly.

Who is distributing New Belgian ales east of the Mississippi? I'd love to see some Fat Tire down here!!!

No one!! I ... might be guilty of moving it across the mighty Mississippi myself. :D

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

I had a Black Butte with supper at the local casino. Sadly, not the true black beer I had sitting by the Rhine in Germany, but passable. I do miss being in Germany--so hard to find a really good Pilsner here in the desert Southwest!
