"What are you going to do with a knife that big?"

Oh, I don't know. I guess I'll go create one more "comments from sheeple" thread. The hundreds that went before didn't get the job done.

Ahhh com'on, you know that this sort of thread gets started over and over. It's the nature of the hobby, and human nature to rehash things over and over.

That sounds like ... Bladeforums. :p

That's what I was thinking lol

I don't carry anything over 3.5 inches. I feel 3 inches is all you need for a carry knife. I do carry fixed blades but they are usually neck knives and openly carried, I was with a friend the other day and forgot I had it, and later on she asked what the hell it was and that she had been curious the entire night. Saying it was the wierdest pendant she had ever seen. So I said "it's a small knife, want to see it?" I then showed her after I baited her curiousity haha. She was fascinated. That is the first time I've ever had anyone ask me what one was, I've never had anyone ask why I carry a knife. My best friend asked me at sheetz a little bit ago for a knife, so the girl he was with looked down at my pocket because she knows I always have one, I pull out my Swiss army on my keys because the place was packed with people I know would be uncomfortable around a knife. she asked "how many of those damn things do you have on you?" I only had five but she didn't even ask why I just got an "oh haha" back. I usually have 4 different blades on me at any time. I have reasons.

But back to the question after my adhd settles down. I would just straight up tell them, I have an obsession with sharp objects like some do with stamps or cars or coins. It is also a useful tool that I use often and will not go without just like my flashlight. I don't leave the house with my knives, a flashlight, my glasses and a hat. They are permanent extensions of my body that are removable only at night.

I think some people have a problem controlling themselves and they don't understand that other humans don't have this problem, so they don't understand how another person can carry a large knife and not be a threat to society. I was watching a movie with my wife a few weeks ago ("Silver Linings Playbook") and it occurred to me that all of the characters were very confrontational, they would push any little argument to extreme. So I decided that some people by nature are confrontational and cannot control themselves in arguments.

Yeah, there's a name for those people. It's the same thing with gun control. They don't have the restraint necessary to own a firearm, so they believe everyone is just as child like as they are.

You need one of these for your dash.

I actually have and use one of these sets at the office.

Thats a pretty bad attitude, assumptions and insults don't help.

Alternatively, they might think that anyone who calls other people "sheeple" while looking for group validation of his opinion and carrying a large knife for no good reason is possibly immature, and that the more he prides himself on this superiority to other people, the less like he is even to be averagely emotional competent.

Or they might be looking at you (or conceivably somebody else) and thinking "Frak no! No way do I want that loser to around my house and my kids with a gun!"

Really: being pro-gun is fine, but you should possibly be a little bit mature in your arguments. The US has, what, 10,000 gun homicides a year? And a total of over 30,000 firearms deaths? I strongly doubt that anyone thinks that they can't be trusted with firearms so other people sholdn't be - it's more likely that they think "The most likely person to buy a gun on my street is biggest loser with the worst temper, lowest self-control and greatest need for anti-pyschotic medication."

I cant see the original link or photo in the OP . massachusetts is very Liberal and they see the criminals as victims Just ask the Gov. Duval patrick . he openly violates the law by calling Mass. a safe haven state for illegal aliens. they love him . I have had liberal sheeple in Mass look down at my clipped knife with disgust and say "why do you need to carry that knife?" and i say its a tool and I use it frequently everyday and they make a sound like "harumph" and their upper lip curves upward and they look away with no verbal response. dont be mistaken the laws on the books in some states are gonna start changing very soon. now with a new horrific tragedy occuring literally every week in this country people are almost in a panic and anything beyond a plastic spoon is gonna freak them out to the point of calling the police.

welcome to the brave new world!!

If you want to talk politics so badly, go get yourself a membership and take it to the Political Arena. Leave it out of the discussion, it's not that hard.

Best answers:
1. I'm.too old to claw at dvd wrappers like a squirrel. Civilized folk use tools.
2. Ever try skinning a moose withe a spoon?
3. *look nervously left and right* then whisper "NINJAS".

I can't see whatever the link was in the original post, so I guess I don't get the joke. If I were ever asked that question by someone,

A. They would be talking about a relatively small knife. Biggest blade I own is a Spyderco Delica, and normally I'm only carrying a sub-3" blade Case slipjoint, and

B. I'd most likely answer "I'm about to slice up this apple here" or "I'm going to cut the packing tape on this box" because if someone is asking me about a knife, that means I have taken it out of my pocket and am about to use it for some mundane cutting task.

I feel 3 inches is all you need for a carry knife.

For most people you are probably correct. Even a 2.5" blade is probably sufficient. The problem I have with a 2.5" or 3" folder is that it has a relatively small handle, proportional to the blade length, and is hard to hold onto for some cutting chores. IOW a 2.5" knife will be more dangerous for some uses than a 3.5" knife just because it is more likely to slip out of your hand. The reason I prefer larger knives is that they have larger handles and they fit my hands better.
