What are your “tricks”?

Great ideas, thanks! I found a brief case key handle that fit my xm18 pivot damn near perfectly. Just look around. We all have metal objects that can double as a screwdriver.

Reassembly. Tiny drop of motor oil on the screw that way I can get it tight enough that it doesn't come out on its own but it's lubed so loosening by tool is easier. I do this on almost every machine screw or bolt I put in anything and never had one loosen. Learned from grandpa.

Sharpening. Set it at desired angle and rapidly move blade back and forth on stone while pulling out and in to get entire blade. Do not try unless you have really steady wrist or it won't work. Go from dull vg10 to sorta razor sharp (gets some hairs not all) in less time than most spend touching up daily.

Also bar keepers friend is the only thing I've found that will complete clean ceramic and or diamond benchstones. Other cleaners do clean them some what but bar keepers friend works best.

Flitz metal polish is also worth every penny if you need to remove some rust or just want your blades looking good. I use flitz on a leather belt on the grinder for my final polish ot stropping

I'm not arguing; I'm just asking because I considering getting some bar keepers. I understand BKF has some acid in it? And you don't think it will ruin the bond of ceramic stones? I thought I saw a thread here where someone used BKF on their ceramic stone and it turned splotchy and they had to relevel it to get to good surface again. And same for the diamond, BKF won't tend to make it rust?

It says on the can not to leave on for more than a minute . I don't see how it could hurt a ceramic stone I've used it for years with no side effects on diamonds or ceramic .
