What are your dirty little knife secrets

My secret, or not so secret, is that although I have knives costing much more, I am excited about getting a $8 Sanrenmu 710.

I want a cold steel medium voyager because chuck norris dug out a bullet with one on Walker Texas Ranger

Knives under $75 aren't of interest to me(mostly).

I think 440C is junk.

I don't like many stainless steels. The new "supersteels" are the only stainless knives I'll carry.

I have bought knives I didn't like just to try out a new steel.

I can free hand sharpen very well, but am not real good with the supposedly easier Spyderco system.

My knife collection is worth more than my car by at least 200%

If my carry knife isn't at least RC61 or better ( preferably RC65 when possible), and thin enough to slice an atom I don't want it.

I have fixed blades as they have uses but find "choppers" silly. I'd rather use my axe, maul, saw, or machete to chop. Doesn't everybody carry them when traveling by car, or backpack ( axe) ? Every car should have it's pioneer tools so why do I need a 10 inch chopping knife?

I believe that Strider & Busse precharge for replacement knives, ala crafstman business plan. Yeah I know infi. Still too expensive. Strider? Pleaze!

I too dislike the "Buy a sebenza", "Buy a busse" recommendations when inappropriate, ie "What is the best knife for under $100?"

I could keep going.

I was watching TV one evening, holding a new 110 on top of the sheets, and fell asleep. I awoke to a stinging in my outter right thigh...yup...stabbed myself! A quick clean up & a butterfly and I was good to go. Told the wife the following morning I cut it on some sharp steel at work. :D

Ok.! I thought, really thought that the rock lobster would be the last knife I would ever want. It is a fantastic knife.

However I am too much of a knife slut and I cheated on it many times. Sorry sweet lobster!

I guess like many, I buy "hard use" knives and then use them lightly or not at all. I think KnifeTests provides good information for those that need info like that but I cannot bear to watch it. I cringe when I see people beating Busse's onto concrete floors etc. Nothing against them doing whatever they want to with their knives, it is just not for me but it is good to know that if someone were to steal my knives, beat them with a hammer and then return them to me, they should come back in one piece. Which leads to my secret:

I own a ZT 0300 with an uncoated blade and carbon fiber scales, it is straight from the factory, it was never marketed so either it is one of a kind or of a small number, so I cannot replace it. It is an AO but I don't let it open unchecked all the way - I stop the blade with my hand before it opens fully and then open it manually the rest of the way because I just don't like the way it slams with the AO even if it was designed to withstand it.

One evening I was carrying my Benchmade 912D2 Nitrous Stryker in the back pocket. The thumb stud caught the tip of my pocket and started to open a little as the night wore on. When I sat down the D2 Tanto blade (razor friggen sharp) deployed. Anyone who knows the force the Stryker delivers will know how bad this will be. The Tanto tip went through my jeans, boxers, and right cheek with the fury of a women scorned. Like a hot knife through butter, like the denim wasn't even there. It lodged itself about 1/2 inch into flesh. The blood, the pain, the embarrassment (I was in a restaurant with friends). The 2 weeks of bandages on my ass and the clean slice in the pants when I finally washes the blood out.
Oh yea, thumb studs were swapped with smaller ones as soon as I healed up. :o

You sick SOB's happy now?:D

Eka H8, knife of all knives, steel of all steels, survival, outdoor, hunting, backup, military, expedition, extreme and God knows what else knife of all times and spaces. If only could aford myself damast steel version!

If I sold my knife collection, I would have more money in hand than if I sold my car, a '89 Toyota.

Oh, the shame.

Just read this all the way through. Awesome thread.

I own and love a Cold Steel Boar Spear. I've never used it for anything, but I love it.

I will most likely never buy a Busse, though I am fond of Scrap Yard's stuff.

I owned and loved a TOPS Tom Brown Tracker. I wish my druggie ex girlfriend hadn't pawned it.

Nothing in my meager collection gets more use than my Vic Super Tinker. It's usually the only knife I have on me.

I secretly want a Cold Steel Warhammer.

I really, really like Cold Steel knives!

I lust after those Gil Hibben monster knives.

I have a couple of those Smith&Wesson big Bowies.

I have 2 Bali's....but I am an absolute klutz with them. I just can't get the hang of them.

I keep buying cheap (inexpensive) knives. Then when I look at a really well made, expensive knife I think I can't afford it and anyway, I already have so many knives. If only I hadn't bought all the cheaper knives I would have a couple of really classy custom knoives for the same outlay and I'd probably still have cash leftover. (But then, how would I find out about the qualities of 420j or AUS6...?)

<<I read somewhere that there is a place found by archaeologists which was a stone-age dwelling site. Scattered all around are beautifully shaped flint 'knives'. These knives are very difficult to make and the archaeologists are baffled by why there would be so many. Well I think that any of us here could supply a very good answer to that question. Those early homo-sapiens must have been the original knife-nuts. Imaqine them sitting around the fire comparing brands - 'Hey Ug, check out this Rockmade from Oregon!' 'Naah, Fred, I much prefer these Spyderflints with the thumbhole indentation.' Nice to know we modern humans continue the old traditions.>>

8. When I'm up late on the computer, my wife thinks I'm watching porn but I'm actually watching knife reviews on YouTube.

Here here! I know she thinks I'm looking at porn too...sad thing is that when she catches me groovin on a big knife pic on the internetz, I'm still embarrassed...

I can't carry a knife w/o a clip but I envy those who can.

Although I love the idea of a carbon steel blade developing a patina naturally through use over the years, I just don't want to deal with the trouble of rusting, so I just toss the thing into vinegar.
