What are your experiences with CPM 3V?

Is it really just as easy to get a CPM 3V edge as hair shaving sharp as 1095?

Does CPM 3V respond to a leather strop about the same as 1095?

It's best to think diamond with 3V . You can go as fine with diamond as you like.I'll let someone else tell you how to strop it !

Leather strop, with compound, I assume...?
If so, results should be pretty similar, maybe a few extra passes on the 3V Vs 1095, but in my experience 3V is not like S110V or a super pain-in-the-ass steel to sharpen.
It's fairly easy to work with, and way better performance.

Standard sharpening? About the same with ceramics or diamonds. Reprofile or sharpening out a good sized chip? Much more of a pain. That said, you're a lot less likely to have to do either nearly as often with 3V.

I just use stone (coarse and fine) and a ceramic rod. I had no problem reprofiling a BRKT in 3v to a V-edge bevel. Easy as 1095? No, but not a heck of a lot different.

Not to mention relatively economical and compact/pocketable diamond stones and diamond stropping paste are readily available if you want to speed things up.

My one specimen of 3v goes from chipped blade to sticky sharp very quick & easy on a norton jb8 silicon carbide bench stone, followed with a 600 grit diamond eze lap, then polishing tape at an estimated ~1200.. I don't strop, but would expect it to respond well. Not sure if this is typical.

My very limited experience stropping 3V (Bark River Bravo 1.5) was pretty positive. Didn't notice a huge difference in the amount of time/effort it took to get the edge to hair popping after I worked it on my stones, compared to 52100/SR101 blades.
