what are your favorite medicinal herbs?

I do believe that the mosquitos down south are worse that the ones up here in the NW. I know being from TX that they used to be quite miserable so maybe its just depends on where there is more humidity.

Up here I frequently use:
Aloe juice for burns
Yarrow for cuts, to numb them use the purple part of the root
Plantain to help heal the cuts

And someone mentioned you can the eat tuber of the water lilly?, that is correct.

Jamie!!! I've tried emailing you several times for months and it was always returned. I was afraid you had been sent to the Middle East, considering your line of work.

Thank God you're alive and well. I've said a few prayers for you.

We've got some news to catch up on. Namely, I'd like to send you a run-down on this year's Siskiyou Primitive Skills Gathering. Email me at bowden0317@msn.com

May there be a road!

Hey Coyo-

I'm also interested in a rundown of the Siskiyou Primitive Gathering! If you wouldn't mind starting a new thread on this I promise I'll read it. :D

I have never seen any remedy for diarrhea, either herbal or modern as good as slippery elm bark. Make into tea (it forms a thick slimy mass) and slurp it down.

For allergies and sinus colds, try a tea made from Mormon Tea (pseudoephedra sp) with a little honey. Boil the green twigs until the tea turns to a light brown color. It is very astringent and will dry your mouth, but is very effective.

For mosquitos in the southeast, wax myrtle is a pretty good repellent. Not familiar with elder in the NW, but use it the same way. Pull off a few leaves, crush between your hands and rub over your skin. It also goes by the name of southern bayberry (Myrica cerifera). Good for your yard too to keep fleas and such down. Be careful though, pretty flamable.

Also a fan coastal plain willow (Salix carolinana). Bark is good to chew for a headache, same stuff as aspirin. Black willow (Salix nigra) is almost the same thing and is found all over the east coast.

When I get a sniffle, I chew on the leaf stem of sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua). Clears the sinuses.

I got more but don't use them very often.

salix nigra flowers tame the libido which can be used for certain types of stress.

I'll have to try the sweet gum for sinuses.

thanks

hotrod, Elder is a perenial and will come back in the spring. it is indestructible, in MS we don't have skeeters in the winter so I doubt you do.
