What are your favorite threads?

That said, the threads which stir the soul almost always offer some controversy. (I have set my CP to show all threads from the beginning, and it is interesting to sort the threads in this forum by views or replies. Bladeandbarrel's 'Blade Show-a LOT of Overpriced Customs' is the reigning king.)

Of course each of the above examples will be interesting. Yes, it's a two-dimensional medium, and so photographs and words are the only input.

Both limited in their ability to convey the truest message, and yet so powerful.

A thread takes on the power of a good drama or novel. Once it starts and lures us in we respond. At that point we 'own' a piece of it.

My favorite threads are usually ones where I approach with a differing point of view and then leave with another--always because of another member's input. Sometimes it takes a while, but I 'get it'.

Thanks for all you do.

Coop (Who NEVER misses the latest PTMYLETYST thread!) ;)

Coop, I prefer WIP threads. I liked Bailey's Parakeet dagger thread a LOT.

I liked that Blade Show thread though. I almost got kicked out of the Kumbaya club for that one.

I like most of the threads, but here are my favorites

• The maker’s “in progress” threads.

• The ones that teach/inform by promoting educational discussions between makers, collectors, dealers and enthusiast?

• The ones that depict beautiful knives and sheaths?

• The threads that discuss knife materials.

Take Care

Maker’s “in progress” threads and the ones that depict beautiful knives and sheaths. But work in progress threads are definitely my favorite, and it seems that I'm not the only one... It is quite interesting to notice that most of us say so... but the place you find most of this kind of thread is the maker's section.

I'm also not a big fan of obituaries, but who is? It's good that they're in here when someone in this community passes on.

I hate the reason for the obituary threads, but would rather know the news instead of getting ticked and thinking I'm being blown off by the deceased.

I liked Bailey's Parakeet dagger thread a LOT.

That was an incredible thread; it was just too cool; and I hope to track down the shotgun WIP (if Bradshaw documented it) because it made it even better.

My favorite threads are from people who've adopted their dream knife or knives dujour (what's French for "of the hour?") from the maker, dealer, or aftermarket and have that electric excitement. Same goes for the sheaths. I like most of the others, too, but those are my favorites. The WIP are similar because the maker(s) liberated the masterpiece(s) from some raw materials (though fossilized mammoth ivory is probably too far gone to be considered raw....).

I would say my favorites are (in no particular order):

Work in Progress

That show pictures of knives, sheaths and associated items

Critique (when it doesn't evolve into troll type participation)

Reviews of shows with LOTS of pictures and descriptions

I will add that lately, there is NO shortage of interesting threads.

Looks like “in progress” threads are very popular.
I liked Bailey’s Parrot Knife thread too.
I was hoping we would see a Coop photo of it.
Guess it’s off to the customer perhaps never to be seen again. :grumpy:

I glanced at that blade show thread. That was before I got here. If I ever have about 5 days to spare, I will read the whole thing. ;)
