What are your thoughts on the MOD CQD Mark 1 and the ZT300?

If you are talking about the cuts that I have on my hands sometimes, they are from my loved cats (I have 3 cats, I love to play with them:D); when I was talking about knife blocking, I was speaking about "panastas" (one type of knife defense like "abecedario" or "larga mano", that are other types of exercises), you block the attacking arm (ex. angle 1) with the blade of your knife.
I also said clearly that was academic speeking, in fact I doubt that if you have to defend your life with a knife (as a last resort, run/escape is better than fighting ...if it is possible), it will make a big difference if it will have convex blade or a "S" blade.

I have two years of experience in Kali (3 of Karate when I was younger) "La Coste Inosanto system", I have never said that I am master or an expert, but maybe you know more about kali than me... more power to you:rolleyes:

P.S. I love your sharpening videos on youtube:thumbup:
Bye:)

Don't get drawn into an argument about this.
Most people seem to have their minds made up on these matters beforehand, and no amount of personal skill or experience will sway their mind.
I've lost track of how many "20th degree black belts" and "ninjas"(no kidding, they claimed to be ninjas!) I've encountered when talking about martial arts.
How can I, as a mere 1st dan compete with those credentials?:D
And THOSE were people in real life! The internet is far worse.

Thanks for the support stabman;)

You are completely right, is realy easy on the web to be missunderstood;) (especialy on international forums).

Own both and like both. Admittedly the Mod Mark 1 has mucho more functions and is better stabber (pointy tip is really good in stabbing) don't forget the ergos of the ZT.

I honestly feel that the ZT has equal footing with the Mod Mark 1 in therms of ergos cause of the grooves in the handle and the pronounced index finger area. So for grip I'll rate them equal.

I like the lock of the ZT and feel that the Mod's lock button travels too little. I'd prefer the lock button to travel further to ensure more secure sense of security. But this is just me and I'm sure that it is strong enough as it is now.

The gap between blade and handle (where you can see the washers) is big in the ZT and I can't see the gap in my Mod. I like this small gaps cause stuff couldn't get inside there. Kinda like my Mudd ZT.

Pivot strength (or lateral strength) is definately belongs to the ZT. The pivot bar/pin is HUGE! It will resist prying forces much better than the Mod anyday.

Overall I'd say my Mod Mark 1 is the winner. But that is not saying the ZT is a bad knife, it s actually one of the nicest knives to come out in the market for a long while :)

I usually don't like when people toss up an "extra" knife into the mix, but I have to do it this time :D

Have you looked at a Microtech Socom Elite with the Manual opening? Excellent knives, I just acquired one on Tuesday (had an older version a while back) and it's a tough knife with perfect fit and finish. Think of it as a cross between the two that you are looking at.

4" of D2 tool steel at .174" thick, and it holds it's thickness all the way up to the tapered tip.

Here's microtechs site: http://www.microtechknives.com/socom.html

and here's a pic or two from me:

I have the plain edge tanto version with a green camo finish. It came very sharp from the factory and is perfect in everyway possible (that coming from a CRK and Strider fan). The "liner lock" is as thick or thicker than most frame locks that I've ever seen before.

I hope this helps, J.
