What Are Your Users

View attachment 803551 My drop point 112, with 5160 blade steel, is my most used Buck.

Would you be so kind as to elaborate on your experience with that knife? I have the 5160/black Micarta version that I love, but have been carrying the S30V DP more (especially now that the weather is turning).

What sharpening angle do you prefer for that setup?
How does the edge hold up relative to Buck's 420HC?
How easy does it stain? Rust?

To the OP, my most used Buck is a C&C S30V DP 112 with satin nickel bolsters and satin finished Micarta.

I sharpen that knife to 20 degrees per side. Edge retention, in my experience, is better than Buck's 420hc. It does stain fairly easy, and rust spots were a problem before the patina developed. I used to take it out of the sheath and wipe it down at the end of the day, during the summer humidity.

I have carried a Buck-Mayo TNT every day for the past several years. It’s light weight and I find it easy to sharpen.

632 Mesa is a real good user knife, it’s one of the Bucks I grab first most of the time because the grip on the handle is good.

I might buy a 2nd Mesa when I get the chance ,and throw it in the pick up truck as a permanent truck knife.

One of my MIA Bucks I just found I've been using the last week or so is a 298 with 154 CM steel. I don't use Bucks with upgraded steel very much as most are 112's that go into my rare, odd 112 collection and most of my other users are 420. I just found my 118 in D2 I haven't seen for a year or so and will be using that too. But only after I try and put really good edge on it since my father in law "sharpere'n her up"..

Here's my user 692, an Alaskan Guide with S30V and titantium-nitrite finish. The previous owner took the AG logo off. Preston

The 105 has gotten almost daily use since I purchased it from the factory about a year ago. It's a wonderful meat cutting knife in the kitchen, and handles most any task I encounter in the outdoors. The sheath is great too. The 55 has been with me constantly since I got it a couple weeks ago at the factory sale (for less than the price of a large pizza ;). I got the last one, and the lady said she had about 50 less than 24 hours before I got mine). It is far from perfect in any aspect, but for some reason it has taken hold, and I prefer it over any of my other folders. I don't even put it back in the knife drawer because I know I will just get it out again in the morning. My Sebenza, Emerson, and GEC are probably like "WTF, man?" Just something about these knives. On paper, they are not my best or my favorite. But when I am heading out the door, they are what I grab.
