I haven't had the need to buy bandages for, well, forever and umm due to one of my hobbies, I think it would be a good idea to have some around... :)

What's everybody's favorite bandage and how about topical treatments?

lol Funny you should ask! Cloth type Band-Aid with Neosporin w/pain relief for cuts and scrapes. the cloth seems to stick better and moves with you.

Although not a bandage or ointment, I go through a bunch of saline solution cause for some reason I always get stuff in my eyes even when I have on eye protection. The wife is a pro at FOD removal from the eyes. Ointment? Conrhusker's lotion cause my hands get real tore up when handsanding.

Superglue.:rolleyes:Really, I prefer Band-Aid brand cause band-aids stick on me.:D

Super Glue, not good on wounds near the eye unless you keep air moving the fumes away from the eyes and keep them closed. Field expedient and keeps a wound closed, the deeper the wound the longer you have to keep it glued up till you can peel off the glue without pain.

This is one of my complaints about bandaids. They are designed for daintly little fingers on ladies and children. I found some once by Curad but cant find them again. They are 4 1/2" long! Made for a Man! They were long enough to wrap around twice and stay on all day.
Neosporin w/pain reliever and a cloth bandaide works good and painless. Heals fast with no infection. I should know.

They're all kind of wimpy, but I make a point to try have the heaviest thickest cloth/foamy ones around in the largest sizes I can find. The assortment box isn't worth much because I only ever use the largest ones. There are a couple of styles I find helpful. The ones for finger tips and knuckles seem to be ones I use quite a bit I guess.

I don't use Neosporin. I have a little tube of calendular ointment I carry for cuts, along with one of arnica montana (for bruises and sprains). Both are rendered from flowers with healing properties. More often than not, I use a piece of slimy aloe vera though, which is great for burns too! I have it growing all over the place. Another plant that makes good poltices is comfrey. On my last farm we made a good bit of comfrey/calendular oinments. It was good bag balm for my milk cows too! I still have a bit of it with my butchering knives. It's not only good for accidental cuts to your hands, but its good for coating the blades and handles with, when done with the job, before packing everything back up.

I like gauze and climbing tape (err, athletic tape). It's cheap and versatile, and I always have a bunch laying around.

Mostly, I just tear off a piece of paper towel, fold it into a flat strip, and wrap it tightly around the area in question, and tape it with whatever I've got handy. Super glue works well for clean cuts.

So, the consensus seems to be paper towel, super glue and tuct tape. The towel and duct tape is pretty much what I've been doing so maybe I'll just stick with that.

Had a corpsman friend of mine tell me to keep tampons and maxipads in my first aid kit!, good for pluggin up GSW's, major cuts and stuff. Mabey I should add Super Glue to that.

I use the band-aid tough strips (They're like a half-step better than the regular bandaid cloth strips) ..they seem to survive pretty well in the shop. You can get them wet and they still won't come off.

The stretchy fabric bandaids in the knuckle and finger shapes are great, conveniet, and generally stick if you remove any oil first. I like betadine for cleaning gashes to keep infections down, neosporrin is ok but doesn't kill infections like good old betadine. Rum works in a pinch but not as well and it stings more, besides I'd much rather absorb the rum the old fashoned way, neat.
If the gash is big enough for duct tape, I probably should get stitches for it anyway. Silvadine is great for burns, but I can't get any doctors to give me a floating prescription for it anymore. Something about being diabetic, they think a doctor needs to look at any burn I get now. They don't know me very well :D

I tell you what, that Silvadine is awesome stuff. I got third degree burns over most of my left palm a couple of months ago. (Dont fill your glove full of propane and then light your oxy propane torch) I used the Silvadine twice a day for a week and I was almost good as new and back at work. Truly amazing stuff.

As far as bandages go, I really like the 3M Nexcare water proof. I get a lot of burns at work, and I've left those Nexcare bandages on for days a time, through showers, rain, sweat and hard work they dont fall off.
