What Bandages do You All Like?

Bandages?!? We don't need no stinking bandages!!

Sorry, couldn't help myself. :o :foot:

James, you beat me to it!

I have almost cut my thumb off twice (well, cut far enough that I had to remove small bone fragments) and I used a paper towel/masking tape bandage. Worked fine. There's still a little scar from the first time (pretty ragged cut); no scar from the second time.

Folks at work thought I was nuts tho. I hate doctors and hospitals so I prefer the my-plumber-doesn't-make-housecalls-do-it-yourself method of medical treatment (if I mentioned how many other things I fixed myself, that most people go to the hospital for, you'd think I was lying).

I go bulk, and I go cheap when it comes to ugly cut-em-ups in the shop. Take a look at my latest incident:

I place these items strategically in my work locations, ie....garage shop, basement finishing, downstairs bathroom. The bulk prices are nice cause, I too have big mitts and usually use 2-3 band aids per cut. It's nice to have the variety of band aid styles for various injuries and location or injury....like the knuckles and such.

At night, a little neo-sporin, on the un-bandaged hand, while you sleep works wonders too.

Anything with Hello Kitty or Spongebob. Superglue it closed first :D

My favorites: Coverlet brand knuckle bandages, elbow bandages and the 1 X 3 strips. Flexible fabric, they stick pretty good, and the strips on the knuckle bandages can be cut off and shaped into pretty good butterflies with a bit of scissor work. Although in a pinch, the paper towel and whatever tape's handy... I use a bit of generic "triple antibiotic ointment" after the bleeding stops, seems to make the cuts heal a little faster.

Well today I cut myself on the job, and no tape or bandaid would do the trick. Off to the Er for some stitches, and now I don't think I will be making knives for a week or 2!! I am an idiot!! I am too old to learn the hard way that razor blade trumps finger every time!

I have used a lot of band aids and have always had trouble with them sticking to me as I start to sweat. Someone told me about Zee Medical so I called them and made an order and these are the only band aids I have ever found that will stay on me.

First I soak the wound with good old rubbing alcohol, then loctite super glue, for bigger cuts I put a piece of a Kleenex Premier paper towel across the cut to reinforce the glue to hold it together until it has time to mend. Sometimes additional applications are necessary.

I also have some 000 suture packs with needles attached for big cuts. Ethicon has a great manual for sewing hide and shows a practice board you can make using a strip of old inner tube to simulate your skin. Practice right and left hands and learn to stitch using one hand only the knots are tough at first but you can learn. You can pick up a pair of needle forceps pretty cheap, get the ones with the scissors at the hinge (practice using them, it is easy to cut the knot and you have to start over. The quicker you stitch after the cut the less painful it is. Wait a couple of hours and you will break a sweat laying down the stitches.

For burns, (first and second degree) the best I have found is cold water immediately, then good old Colgate toothpaste! Immediate pain relief and heals quick.

A flexible fabric strip and neosporin is my fav. But most of the time its a piece of my shirt and masking tape (since painting pays the bills right now).:o

I second on the Bag Balm that stuff works wonders,as for the bandage...
Man-daids paper towe and duct tape. That silvadine stuff is great!!!

Super glue gel or liquid here. Once I stop the bleeding and its no longer oozing I simply stick some glue over it squeeze it gently to keep it closed and then wipe it off an old receipt or paper towel or whatever is handy. Once this sets up I'm back to work.

I forgot until today that Cayenne pepper stops bleeding. I had a small gash on my hand before, put a little cayenne on it and it stopped in 5 seconds. I haven't tried it for any deep cuts before, but I think it'd work, just a little slower. It also doesn't burn like most people would expect. It stings a little, just from touching a cut, but other than that...

I mostly use athletic tape, with a little tp or paper towel as the pad. probably from my rock climbing days, but the stuff stays on forever!!
