Hi all, been trying to decide what Kabar Becker knife i need for my Bug out - survival Bag and i want to Use your knowledge and expertise. I want "THE" knife for Batoning, Camp work, and general usage that might be needed! I have looked and looked and I still cant Figure out what I want. I have a smaller knife already for skinning smaller game and such already. Weight is going to play into my equation and while being a weapon might be nice I have Firearms for that. what do you think I should carry if i only can have one larger style Knife? Thanks guys!! Also , where should i buy it from? I looked at Wal marts website and they seemed to have a few different Kabar Becker's at what i thought , were very good prices.. Let me know what you think, God Bless and may i never truly need to use this in my stated application but if i ever do then i will Thank Kabar, Mr Becker and yourselves !!!

I am no bug out expert but my simple answer is BK-3 for urban and BK-9 for rural areas. A smaller knife option would be the BK-2.

Hmmm, batoning, camp work, and general use and with weight also being a consideration?

Sounds like a job for ... the BK5 Magnum Camp!

Here, try mine ...

I'll second the vote for the 3. I'd probably actually do a 3 on the left side of the bag, and a 9 on the right.

I would probably +1 this. Own the 2 & the 3 and both would be great in a wilderness and urban bugout scenario respectively. But so much good is said about the 9 that even though I don't own one (yet), it's hard to ignore it as an option.

Since I live in an urban area, the 3 rides in my emergency kit in my car.

Personally I carry a fiskars X7 camp axe for wood processing with the BK16, great combo. But if it is to be just a knife I would go the BK7 or BK2, which will do it all but the 2 will weigh a fair bit more as well, but who cares I say.

All of them.
Yes....all of them. Well, maybe not the BK13...but all of the others.
If you are going to raise the issue of space (not having room for other gear, with so many knives) or weight, I respectfully submit that you aren't taking this matter seriously enough.

It really comes down to your skill set and comfort zone. I suck with a hatchet or axe in the woods! It is something that I really would like to improve on but as of right now an axe is not of much use to me. I can fell a small to midsized tree with one and eventually break it down into firewood but that's about it.
I'm much more comfortable with a large knife (BK9) than with an axe. I didn't grow up with an axe in the house and I've never taken the time to get beyond the basics in axemanship (I know that's not a real thing but it's all I got).
So, Rainbow 4758, ask yourself what your strengths and weaknesses are and plan accordingly. I pack a 9 and a 16 in my B.O.B. because that is what works for me right now.

Hmm I spose I could add some confusion to the mix, but, like a few of the fellas have said, it's really a personal choice that you won't really get a total grasp upon until you handle a few of them. Some swear by the Machax (DOC CANADA- he somehow probably heard that), some believe 'you can't not have a 9' (actually pretty much everyone here) even the Boss has his faves (16 & 11) but until you wield a few, you might get a bit daunted by the variety of choice (they're all fantastic though).

If you can get yourself to a good outdoors store that sell them, try holding a few different ones to see what they're like and how they feel.

My personal opinion? I love my 7. It feels awesome in the hand and makes a great all-round blade. Also, a knife that doesn't get quite as much love as some of the others but to me is really cool is the 10. Same OAL (approx.) as the 2 but lighter and is more compact than the 7, 9, 4 etc. and more stout than the tweeners (you gotta get a tweener though as well).

BUT, and this is a big but (I love big butts) if you ask anyone in the becker sub forum, they will all say "just get em all!". It just so happens that I share this opinion.

Hope that helped mate (although I feel I probably made it worse somehow). Good luck and happy Beckering..

Good advice with the 10. That's a good compromise to consider.

When I think bugout I think of the bk2. Mostly because it is virtually unbreakable and if S really does HTF I'd want something that could cut, baton, destroy, stab, pry anything I want... mostly. Also, if this is actually in the bag it is under a foot in length.

As far as where to get any Becker or accessery just go to www.CoyleOutdoors.com and you're all done!
