What blade do you like better?

RMD is superior in my book. It would be a closer contest if the HRLM had either a useable choil or none at all, though.

I agree that the choil is too small as-issued. I englarged the ones on mine to be usable. I also ground off the stupid lanyard hole. Both mods make all the difference to me.
snipped for relevant content.

It never ceases to amaze me "stupid lanyard hole" am I stupid for thinking its good as issued?

and

Choil isnt just for fingers, it refers to a notch in the blade to allow for ease of sharpening, the size is irrelevant. Someone thought "it would be cool if...." and the "finger choil" was born. If its too small to fit your finger, then you shouldn't put it there. Problem solved. :p

I know, I know, it wasn't meant in that light, IMHO and all, but fellas, lets think before posting.

I had the RMD, sold it, now I have the HRLM. it feels better for me.
it's a tough little big knife.

I vote for making it big enough for a finger or small enough not to eat up blade space... in-between is no-man's land and doesn't make sense to me.

The same question was asked as a poll over on the Scrap yard forum, the RMD won, but here's what I said:

I voted Undecided / No Opinion because while I actually prefer the RMD by a slight margin (I own 16 RMDs, but only 9 HRLMs), I'd be more likely to actually carry the shorter and less "stabby" looking HRLM in a suburban setting, which is where I live.

My line of thinking(just assumption) with the choil on Swamp Rat and Bussekin knives in general is based on the lifetime garauntee. A ten year old knife that may have tons of resharpenings and reprofiles is better fixed with that choil. It's also easier for the shops to fix when sent in for spa treatments fixes ex. the longer that knife is used the shallower that choil will become to the point of no choil theoretically. I think its more for long term maintenance. Again this was just my thought!:D there may be no truth behind my crazy logic!:p:D

What do you like better if you had to pick one? HRLM or RMD?

Hopefully the RMD! Still waiting on my order. The HRLM's look like a very useful sized blade, although I have too many folders in that size range at the moment. At least, that was my excuse!

Too many nice knives lately!:D

Same excuse here. I did however convince myself that I also needed a swamp warden :D The things we do to ourselves :D

mhawg's damn Blk paper thread has gotten me to thinking now! I might NEED a Blk paper HRLM!

I had to make this decision, and the HRLM was the victor!! It came down to balance, the RMD is very balanced but the blade just felt too big for the handle. The HRLM has a wider blade and is very well suited to all cutting chores. The slight handle balance of the HRLM made is very easy to work with and fast in the hand. The great thing about these 2 is they are nearly interchangeable. Get either or both, the general design these are built on is phenomenal.
