What blade for this scenario?

Just to go very quickly off-topic, aside from the implausibility of this scenario (I'm stranded on a tropical island and there's a pile of knives on it and I can only choose one? I have to pick a knife and then get stranded on a tropical island?), there is a bigger question I need to throw out.

Arent tropical islands, by definition, next to the ocean? Is there a kind that isn't?

Back on topic.

The correct answer is Tram. What does Faiaoga win? :D

What does Faiaoga win? With my kind of luck, I will win another all-expense paid tour in Samoa (formerly Western Samoa) with a lifetime supply of tinned mackerel and boiled green bananas. :D Beautiful country and good people.

Seriously, I know the Tramontina I a really great machete for the price, and I have owned several. The brand that was used during my Peace Corps service was Martindale (Crocodile brand) from Birminghan UK. Because Samoa is a Commonwealth country, it was the brand sold there. I am sure that other brands are good - but look for the knives and patterns and brands sold to and used by the people who live and work on tropical islands.:D

In my opinion, a machete is essential. A stainless steel belt knife would be a good supplement. Neither knife need be expensive.

I have a BK2, but like my brother's BK9 for this scenario better... A good cheap Mora would probably be my second choice.

Thank you for your service. Martindales are great also.

Trusty Ka-bar tanto for sure--1.5" of serrated edge and a blade hard enough to murder coconuts like it's goin' outta style. Monkey's wouldn't stand a chance either!!

Wait, is this a deserted desert island, or no? Because if there's a resort, then I'll just wander up like James Bond did in (pick any of the several movies he's done it here) and just walk right in like I belonged there. Then I'd head to the kitchen where I'd (hopefully) find a knife of good carbon steel. Then I'd check in, because why survive when you could thrive?

Hands-down - BECKER BK-2

Don't need a dedicated sharpener. What? No stones or rocks on that island?

Salt water? Rust? *pffft* 1/4" coated 1095CV steel would take years (decades?) before it rusted enough to become unusable. Dry it off, scrub it down with some sand, or scrape it off with a seashell. If there are animals (or zombies) on that island, you have a source of fat/grease.

Forget the knife, how about a vodka martini (though I would prefer Gin but keeping to the Bond theme) and some sun screen. Still gotta watch out for zombies though.

I am definitely on board with the vigilance for zombies. There's never any way to know when those guys might try to crash the party! Eff that noise.

And vodka martini? Serve it up and count me in!

ok...if im stuck on some stupid island, why does that have to be my choice? I mean, its not even realistic, I don't even own a gerber....and wheres my SAK? i always have my Pioneer, how the hell did I manage to lose it?

I'm just trying to find at least one good thing someone has to say about gerber on this forum. I will never stop til I do...I'm never gonna stop then am I?

The best knife for any job is always the same answer: It's the one you have on you (and hopefully you have more than one!).

Gerber knives can be relied upon to never, ever explode. That's a good thing. Now move on to another subject.
