What blade steel did you carry today?

I rocked the 247 in M390 on my day off today. I think I made four cuts today. Miraculously, it still has that sweet edge!

Today, well, technically yesterday 10/20/2018..... 204P all day. 1095 and M4 part of the day. N690 all day.

80CrV2 forged in a custom puukko, H1 in serrated Spyderco Dragonfly, 1.4110 in a Victorinox SAK (had to look up that last one)

Carrying the Wayfarer 247 in M390 a lot right now.

My preferred range of steel is about S35VN up to M390. I occasionally joke about steels, and I admit that having 10 folders with steels in that range isn’t necessary. It’s obviously ridiculous overkill, despite the fact that I use my knives frequently at work. I do very little cutting on most days off. A rotation of Delicas would be sufficient to keep a good working edge in my pocket every day without excessive maintenance required.

Honestly, though... I enjoy not having to think about maintenance very often. As little as possible, really. When I’m in the mood for it, breaking out the Edge Pro is like a holiday. These steels keep me in that space. I certainly don’t need them, but I enjoy them!

Cpm REX 45 in a PM2 for today.

For the Halloween party tonight I will also have an APEX EDC in Zwear at 62HRC.
My personal knife :) and full convex. Shes one sexy slicer! 0.116 thick!

I took the Wayfarer 247 to work again today. The more I carry it, the more I love it.

Having had it for a few weeks now, and having bonded with it through work, I decided to go ahead and break out the Edge Pro. It’s kind of a ritual thing for me at a point. This is my second knife in the M390 family, and I haven’t yet put my edge on the first (0609), because the factory edge came gloriously sharp. The edge on the 247 was fine, but I wanted to get aggressive with it.

This isn’t harder than working S35VN or Elmax, but it certainly is more time consuming. I’m setting it aside to hit the gym (it’s 9:24pm here), and getting back at it on my day off tomorrow. I wanted to comment on this while it’s fresh in my mind. This part, right here, is why S35VN is my favorite overall steel. At the same time, I’m doing this understanding that it will be a long time before I have to do it again. So, I enjoy and appreciate that a knife of this caliber comes in this steel. It’s worth the labor of love.
