What blade steel did you carry today?

Cruwear got the nod today, like many days.

It has been Victorinox steel on my regular carry SAK, and VG-10 with my Boker Urban Trapper. This has been the pair for the last couple of weeks.

Something you don’t find in a budget knife, BG 42. Back in the day when SOG meant something, they made some killer knives.

The AutoClip was a take off on the molded pocket clip. SOG made the tension adjustable, giving the wearer the ability to literally lock the pocket clip with just a roll of the thumb wheel.

It had a crazy for the day, compound grind. Hollow and flat grinds with a single chisel grind on the mark side.

They offered the knife in BG 42 for a very short time. It was too costly to produce and the end users weren’t yet equipped to maintain such a hard steel. IIRC they still make them in China.

Here’s my steel, BG42 on my SOG Mini AutoClip from the 80s

What a far cry the current incarnation in “420 Stainless “ at a 49-53 Rockwell compared to the 59-62 Rockwell of the BG42.

Glad I got it when I did, a little piece of Cutlery history.

I had a 13c26 Leek for out and about, a V-Toku2 Delica around the house, and a 1095 traditional for an event tonight where I have to dress up.
