What blades have you broken?

As I rummaged through my old knife pile, I found a blade I regret buying when I had no knowledge of blades at all. I proceeded to test it out in the back with a little woodwork. I started out with batoning and ended up with a destroyed plastic handle thirty seconds later. The reverberations from hitting the blade completely dismantled the scales. I believe it was called a 'stealth ranger' or something....anyway, what knives have you broken and how?

I would have provided pics of my destruction but I only have one of the scale-less blade from my phone somewhere on this computor, I will post it when (or if) I locate it. Pics would be appreciated :D

Years ago I was learning to throw knives. I was using a Cold Steel True Flight Thrower (brand new), and got less than a dozen throws with it before it hit the board flat instead of blade-first; the knife broke into four pieces. I haven't bought a CS since.

I bought a couple of knives labeled "Hummer" for batoning... turns out the tang on these knives is little more than 2 small 'hooks' embedded into resin. Long story short, I was left with the handle only, the blade remained in the wood! Good thing I was in my backyard! Goes to show, test your gear! I'd have been PISSED if that had happened when I was out and about!

The only blade I've ever broke that I actually cared about was my dear buck 471

A hissatsu fixed blade, used it to pray open a door, the tip broke off. I know that this knife is not made for this type of use but well it was an emergency.

Smith and season black ops, I was learning knife martial arts and somehow I missed the bag and the blade went into a brick wall full blast.
I'm still learning how to Post pictures but if I can figure that out I'll get it on here

Mostly tips off of cheap chef knives, back when I was working in kitchens. They just get knocked off onto the tile floor, and there goes the tip. I probably have broken a few flea market crap knives as a kid, or maybe they just fell apart.

Cold Steel XL Espada. i stabbed this knife on a plywood board and 1/2 inch of the tip remained inside the plywood board. My XL Espada is now tipless

had one of my grandpas old cheapie knives in hand (one of the many that had sat in a wet moldy box for 20+yrs) and i was cutting some twine when the blade snapped off, turns out the rust had gone about 5mm downward from the spine on and already thin spey blade, but on the bright side that year i had a new throwing knife

I haven't broken any. I don't abuse knives:confused:.

I don't fetishize, knives and I don't treat them like they have some sort of intrisnic value.

So I guess you can say on occasion I have used knives for tasks other then cutting.

I have broken a bunch of cheaper knives but have yet to break a quality one. If I pay top dollar for a piece of steel I expect it to be more durable then glass.

I wore out the spring on my Kershaw Ken Onion Leek flipper..I was so pissed I threw it out didn't want to deal with shipping it back to them.

I also have broken a few pairs of Sears pliers in my day and a leatherman squirt pair of scissors

I've been fortunate, in that I can only remember 2, I snapped the tip off of a Queen Mountain Man folder and had a piece break out of the edge of a custom, but there was really odd discoloration in the grains of the steel where it broke, and 3 other knife makers agreed there was some imperfections in the bar stock that were probably to blame.

I broke a buck bantam about 2 summers ago trying to baton with it... I can't say I regret it because it was one of the things that led me to bladeforums looking for a replacement, but instead of finding just one, i found 40 :p
