What Brought You To JK Knives?

I found out thru BladeForums. After coming across my first 2 hunting knives I had stashed away, one a Buck 110 and my first, an old fixed blade Western. I decided I wanted a new fixed blade since all my knives are folders. I started researching threads on the board and eventually came across a few older posts by Mack/Protourist talking about JK knives and how amazing they were. That led me to my Appalachia Special and JK knives.

Before I started frequenting here, I would occasionally lurk here and look at all the pictures. After entering John's Anniversary contest a couple years ago ( and not winning:D), I decided to refine my design and have it made anyway. That's how it started.

Now I stay because of the friendships made and the community that exists here.

Oh yeah, I occasionally buy a knife too.

I'd seen your knives mentioned in the old W&SS & saw all the JK supporters siglines throughout BF so I had to try one for myself.
That's what brought me here.
What kept me here is the best bang for the buck in hand made knives & the great people that frequent your forum.

I found JK Knives while looking at custom knives here on Blade Forums. John is a knife maker in Illinois and I wanted to support him because I live here also. When I sent him e-mails he responded quickly and treated me as a friend rite away. I found he is someone that I would do business with and also become a friend.

I saw a review of the CBK over on the bushcraft site. I used the Google and bookmarked The JK Knives website. Ordered my own CBK a short time later.

Thanks for that link Mack. I hadn't seen that until this evening. Awesome! :)

BF

I happened to see some pocket knives John was giving away to kids and ended up buying two knives he had made which led to more orders.

If I remember correctly I saw something about Hanna being sick and followed the threads until I found your forum.

Been out of the loop, was wondering if anything else had come out about the nail polish.

About 4 years ago I was checking out custom wood scales from Burl Source and the site has a Directory of Custom Knife Makers, so after reviewing the designs available from all those makers, I chose John's Riverwoods Companion for my first. He encouraged me to join BF. My wallet has never recovered but I got some nice knives.

I first heard of you while I was out of country, while reading an article from a knife magazine about your version of the Herter's Improved Bowie.

When I returned, I found Blade Forums while researching a "recovered" Khukuri made by Himalayan Imports. I was determined to find out the history of this blade for a friend who kept it, but had passed.

Then I saw your forum, recognized the name, and was impressed by your ethic.. and also learned of Hanna's plight.

Divine providence, my friend.

My taste in knives has evolved over the years. I went through my tanto phase, my "tactical" phase, my ginormous fixed blade phase, etc. I have been thinking lately about function, what really works and what doesn't. I have had this discussion lately with a friend that is also into knives. When I think about what I want in an outdoor/fieldcraft/survival knife I want, for laxk of a better term, an updated Kephart that has the right mix of old and new; Carbon steel blade, modern handle materials, a slightly larger guard, and slightly thicker blade stock. I was browsing Bladeforums and saw a picture of your Scout jr and thought it had everything I wanted and nothing I didn't. I quickly placed an order.

I was trading off a knife or knives on BF a while back. A guy had a few knives he was offering, one of which was "JK Kentucky Fieldmate". I bypassed the others and went for the JK. I still EDC that in the back pocket of my jeans, often. That knife brought me to this place, and it has been rewarding to say the least.

I saw a post of somebody abusing the crap out of some of your hawks. the were chopping all kinds of crazy stuff. I think they even hit a car door or dumpster. I was hooked after that.
