What Buck are you carrying today?

I've wanted to try out a small Buck fixed blade for quite a while now but the 2 Blade Show award Gen-5's I received are mirror polished and I display them with my 112's..But my Brother is bringing me up a S45VN 212 today about noon and I'll try that IF he can find the shieth. Does any other Buck model shieth work for the 212?? I remember a few folks not liking the factory shieth so if anyone has a recommendation I'm all ears!

My 301 helped free other members of the family

Today I carried my 500 Duke along with a Pioneer X. I wanted to do a test. Without the sheath, how well does the 500 Duke handle pocket duty? Even though I was wearing Docker's instead of jeans, it worked fairly well. It printed a little, but I hid it behind my car remote. ;) I would definitely do it again.

Tim,
Very nice looking 500 you've got there! Please excuse my ignorance, but why is pocket printing a concern? I can't understand why it would be a problem. Then again, my fashion sense has me in a T shirt and jeans most of the time, so....to each his own, I'm just curious.

I have a bunch of other flippers, some more expensive, some less, from several different makers in a few different styles. This one is still my favorite, even among my other Buck Sprint Pro’s. It looks great, feels great in the hand, and the action is just superb, the nicest and smoothest of anything I have in the drawer.

Thanks! The issue with printing is just potential risk if you're in an area (city, work, etc.) that frowns on pocket carry or actively discourages it. In some areas, it might actually be illegal to carry a knife or locking blade in a pocket. If you forget those legalities (or choose to ignore them), it's better to not risk attracting attention where someone might ask to verify it.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess it shows how long it's been since I've traveled. I honestly had no idea that there were laws of that nature in the U.S. (outside of government buildings and such). Here in the small town that I live in, everybody carries a knife. I sometimes wear a fixed blade on my hip. I forget, sometimes, that there is a big world out there. 😄

I think it was only recently that it became legal to carry a knife in public in Philadelphia. That didn't bother me specifically, but is an example of that type of thinking. You can check out www.kniferights.org and the Knife Laws subforum for more info and other examples. As you mention, it's a big world out there and we don't know the specifics of most of it outside of our local area.

I'm still beating on the 726 I picked up last Saturday at the pawn shop Really went through an obnoxious amount of cardboard and some whittling. So far, I've only tapped it on a strop or hit it with the coarse and fine ceramic rods on my field sharpener and it pops back to pushing through paper sharp.

I really didn't think I'd ever be interested in a Spitfire, as I'm a big fan of the classic Buck models and Bucklites, but I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed to the point where I'm going to order my daughter either a custom 722 or 726 in the upgrade steel or, because it's still there, grab that March BOTM. Shoot, maybe I should order two of them, one for her and one for me.

Both the Buck 110 and 426, neck carry. The 426 under my outer shirt and the 110 on the outside.

I really like the handiness of neck carry, but I am reconsidering after today. I spent a couple of hours at the range both coaching another shooter as well as getting some much needed and overdue p-p-p-prac-t-t-t-tice as well. I did all drills from concealment as usual (the same way I shoot USPSA), but today I decided to grab my polo shirt higher on my belly before pulling it up to clear the holstered pew-pew. Why does this matter here? Because the 110 in the pouch hanging from a neck lanyard got in the way a few times. Since I found that grabbing my shirt higher is both faster and less fumble prone than grabbing or hooking a thumb under the hem, I'm going to stick with it for now. I may need to abandon neck carry. It's no big deal for a match, but could be an issue if a tense social situation evolves that I can't successfully avoid.

Back in NC with the folks again this week. Since I usually fly carry-on for short trips, this 486 is my knife when I get here. I gave it to my dad years ago but he never carries it so it sits waiting for me.
