What Buck are you carrying today?

I just wish I wasn’t on call this week till Monday morning. It’s a gorgeous day out after having some nice rain this past week. But I can’t get far from work in case of a call to go to the compressor station for alarms. Id like to go out to the grass lands and ponds to kick around on a small hike along the river trail. This time of year and spring there are a lot of migratory birds coming through and it’s very pleasant weather today, sun is out and low to mid 70s with a few clouds and extra blue skies. Id probably be carrying my 110 Magnacut and Larrin 501. Then cook some steak on a campfire grill.
I used to do weeks on call as an electrician in an ethanol field. Anything that prevented them from moving product was considered an emergency. Got calls at all hours. Loved working at that facility but do not miss the on call shifts one bit.

...ethanol field...
I don't want to hijack the thread, but what's an ethanol field? What came to mind:

Well yes, technically That IS an ethanol field. :D The one I worked at was a tank farm (I can see the next picture you're sending me already) where they store ethanol, gas, jet fuel and other fuel products. Comes in by train or barge, gets stored in large tanks, and gets shipped out on tanker ships and trailer trucks.

Odd that something a person loved causes something that same person dislikes. I worked at a corn processing plant and like you said, anything that halts product moving is an all hands in deck emergency. When you are the "all hands" it makes for long days. Still miss the plant though

Where I was at it meant no plans with the family, no plans for holidays, no plans for events. In exchange, you might get a call and get some good OT. A lot of the time it was sitting on your hands for a week, for an extra $50.00 in your check. The guys that worked there didnt get any stipend. Got paid the same as guys who couldnt pass a BCI or a drug test.... normal days, working with great guys, being outside all year round in all types of weather, doing crazy projects, home by 330 most days... who wouldnt miss that?

That makes more sense  😃

Man, long time away from the surf! OH
Used to go for scup and tautog (blackfish). Every once in a while we'd get stripers. Used to live right near the bay and would go after work or on Sunday mornings. Amazing what a 12 mile move inland will do to your fishing habits. Now it's all trout, steelies and bass. Or what ever else you can pull out of thr lake river or pond.

Cleaning up the yard of all the boughs, pinecones, sticks, and branches left from TS Ophelia's passing (quite fortunate that is all there will be to it). Got one pickup load ready for when the dumpster site opens this afternoon; carrying this Buck Vantage (and a non-buck pocketknife). OH
