After much helpful advice from members here, I have decided to order the Baldor #114 (1/4HP-1800rpm) buffer and was wondering what buffs to order and from where ? I will also need some advice on what color/grit compounds to order. I will be working with O1 tool steel. I am NOT looking to put a mirror finish on my knives BTW.....just a nice satin/smooth buff on the micarta handles and blades. I never was into bright/shiny blades and won't be doing any of that. Again....thanks to all who assist :)

Anybody help me out on this one please ?

I run 10" buff's cotton, spiral sewn, I do not run the loose buffs they will grab the blade and bad things happen. Typically I use a lot of green, some white when I don't want green in the material, and black for faster removal. You can do a lot with green

Buy some extras so you can use a clean buff when needed, I have one that I only use on wood that has been treated with wax, and another for wood handles which have been treated with oil, I keep them in plastic bags to keep dust and metal out.

It looks like I'm a couple of steps ahead of you on this one, as I recently received my Baldor 3/4 hp. I purchased several 8" spiral sewn buffs, with the black, green, and white compound. I just used it for the first time and the black compound on its own buff gave me a great satin finish on a pair of guards. I put white compound on another spiral sewn buff and it brought me to mirror finish in about a minute or two. I didn't expect such good results so quickly. I also purchased a sissel and loose buff, but haven't needed to use them yet, as the spiral sewn are doing just fine.
