What Bushcraft blade for Alaska?

You will be carrying a better knife than 99.9% of Alaskans with any selection from your list. I really does not take a special knife to operate there. I lived in the interior for a number of years and never really thought about it too much.

Anyways, with that said I usually had a Bark River knife ( lil canadian) on my hip most days and if I was heading into the woods for any serious amount of time a Gransfors Bruks wildlife hatchet and folding saw was usually in the pack as well. A smaller knife, ax/hatchet combo is very suited to the boreal forest.

About the most important piece of equipment to consider if you are going to be down on the Kenai is a pair of Xtra Tuffs:)

Can't believe this thread doesn't have any pics yet.:D

Aurora would be an excellent choice along with a multi-tool and a axe or saw.

oh i know it doesnt take a fancy blade to cut a stick or clean a fish. Going to Alaska is nothing new my mom use to live in Juneau and id go visit (uumm fishing!:D) there its a blast. I just have a hard time picking a good allaround bushcraft out of my collection!:D:D

A agree with most of the above, I would take the Aurora.

I have quite a few Barkies, and I really like tha Aurora. It's a great camping/bushcraft blade.

If I'm camping/hunting big game, I'd bring a Drop Point Hunter, Gunny, or Fox River for field dressing and skinning.

G'day Ivan

Just for fun out of my list what would you bring? Bark River Aurora,BRK liten bror, BRK FT Kephart, BRK Gameskeeper,BRK Canadian Special.
The only one on this list I have first hand experience with is the Liten Bror (LB).

To help the selection process, a couple of questions if I may.

Will the additional 0.725 inch blade length of the Aurora (over the LB) make that much of a difference for fishing & camping?

I can see the deeper handle of the Aurora having an advantage over the thinner handle of the LB for push cutting harwoods, but will this be a feature of your trip?

Will the additional stain resistance of the 3V in the LB be an advantage over the A2 in the Aurora?

Which of the knives listed do you feel the most comfortable using?

BTW, don't forget to take a camera :D cause one of these days I'm going to get to Alaska for some fishing

Kind regards
Mick

No there is no deal breaker for me with blade length between the LB and Aurora. Id like to do a little wood carving around the camp at night. and no i dont have a preference between 3V and A2 i like them both:D:thumbup: that is the hard part i love 'em all:D ill probly take a Scrap Yard Dog Father to for a chopper if i need it and yes ill take a ton of pics:D:thumbup:
