What bushcraft knife should I buy?

pinnah, I am mainly talking about heavy duty battoning. I agree that my mora will take care of most tasks, that's why I love it, but I am always a little worried about doing heavy wood splitting with it due to its rat tail tang. I also would like to try a knife with a better blade steel. Once again, yes the Mora will get the job done but the steel dulls quicker than many other steels, and lets be honest the Mora doesn't look the best. I'm not saying I only buy something for its looks, and I know looks don't have anything to do with practicality but I would like a knife I can take more pride in.

As mentioned, LT Wright makes excellent bushcraft blades. Helle also makes some very attractive bushcraft knives - most are in the $100-150 range. Here's my Fjellkniven from last winter (the finish stands up great to use, btw):

Bark River also has some bushcrafty type models. For example, here's my Liten Bror - it's the smaller brother of the regular Aurora scandi grind. Smaller, but comfy and capable:

Whoa! Never seen that Helle model!

The Helle knives are nice but wont throw sparks off a ferro rod. Sub $100 I think you would be happy with the Schrade SCHF42D. 1095 steel, flat ground and drop point. Nice leather sheath. And you can usually find them for around $50 shipped to your door! If you wanna get closer to that $100 mark, then look into the Enzo knives!

That Helle is one good looking knife, Derek. Hadn't seen that one.

With your stuff I never can tell if the knives are that good or if the pictures are just so good they make them all look great.... Is photography a profession or a hobby with you??

Is the spine too soft? All you need is a sharp edge on the spine.

The carbon steel is irrelevant to making sparks with ferro rods

Not to mention who cares. Ferro rods come with a metal plate that works great for throwing sparks.

Hell yeah, LMF Army 2.0
Best on the the market.

It even has a whistle!

so you can let your finds know you got your fire started first while they continue to struggle with lesser brands haha. Toot tooot!!

Thanks, my friend. It's been around for as long as I've been on the Forum. Hard to tell, but that one pictured is my user (there are scratches on the blade that you only see in person in the right light). I've got another one BNIB in one of the safes somewhere. I dig 'em.

Haha - thanks, buddy! Photography is just a hobby, but I've been doing it for long enough to know when/where to get a good image, even with just an iPhone. But, with subject matter as nice as some of my blades (most of them are simply sweet), it's hard not to get a good pic sometimes!
