Hmmmm. I've thought about this many times and if I absolutely had to walk back out there.............Satin Jack. Here was the loadout for individual gear that I can remember (maybe Nick can relate).....from head to toe:
Kevlar brain bucket (protractor inside)
BDU's (and as always, dogtags)
Soft cover
Fragmentation vest
LBE with:
Motorola radio (for MOS)
First aid pouch (two dressings)
Compass
Mini-mag
6 loaded rifle magazines
M9 pistol w/extra magazine
Protective mask
2 one quart canteens, 1 two quart canteen
Bayonet, Kabar/MkII
2 frags, 1 smoke grenade or flashbang
M16A1 w/magazine
Handcuffs
Flexcuffs
Gloves
Pockets:
Issue sunglasses
Map
Camo stick
Chewing tobacco (yikes!)
Bug juice (Deep Woods Off)
Tinker SAK
1 MRE
1 flare
Some kind of reference manual--or several (something always breaking)
Anything else that could be found and used.
And standard issue boots under all of that.
Did I leave anything out?! Light ruck for us was 40 pounds--heavy was around 70. That was before extra ammo, M60 stuff or the radio. I always thought rucksacks would be MUCH more practical with those pull-out handles and little wheels like airport luggage!
Satin Jack. Or maybe the Fusion Outlaw for extended or primitive stays..............
