What Busse to buy first?!

Hey BF buds. I am currently using a Swamp Warden and RatManDu for my backpacking/hiking combo. I think the RMD is awesome...but it's kind of falling into an in-between size category. Too big for delicate tasks...too small for chopping. I'm torn as to which Busse will fit my profile.

I think I need two when it boils down to it. One larger than the Swamp Warden but smaller than the RMD...and then a dedicated chopper. My initial thoughts were a SAR 3 (though I have short handle concerns) in combo with a BWM. What do you think?

hey brother, id say you have a pretty good frame work in mind, it depends on your budget and preferance on how much wieght you like to carry on a trip. the bwm is great, it was actually the first busse model i ever acquired and then i went kinda crazy. the sar 3 is a good choice as well , i have owned two and there good, if your worried about the small handle just go up a notch and go with an ACTIVE DUTY. also to tweak your chopper list and give you something to think about, the NMFBM is the best big ol chopper but it tends to be on the heavy side, look at a CGFBM and the B-11, the b-11 really surprised me , you get alot of chopping power and i feel like it was easier and more comfortable to swing repeatedly versus the CGFBM and NMFBM. the SH-E (steel heart ergo) and the HHFSH, FSH are a litttle smaller about 7.5 to 8 in but you get alot of bang for your buck so to speak. for the smaller blade again i would really look at an ACTIVE DUTY or BAD(boney active duty, a little thinner) or a CULTI. hope this helps and dont forget to let us know what you ended up getting, welcome to the madness.

Since you're thinking about ruling out an RMD but are apparently into Swamp Rats, have you thought about a HRLM (Howling Rat Little Mischief)?

Size comparison between the 2... RMD, 5" blade, HRLM, 4" blade.

Ya can't go wrong with either, although I'd suggest not piggybacking it with a BWM.

The Busse AD or BAD (Active Duty series) are great little knives as wel.
Another choice might be a BOSS Street or Anorexic BOSS Street. :) It (the Anorexic version) can be found in 3 versions... Large choil, small choil, or no choil. :)

a good general purpose Busse that would suit you well is the SNFO :) love em!

A Fat Flat or Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress should be on the top of your list. The sabre ground SFNOs are amazing as well.

Holy sfno batman! That digicamo version is bada$$! Where/what ganza did that come from?!

To add something constructive to the thread, i love my sar3, feels like an extension of my hand. The cabs is great also with a big handle (for me). i have a cgfbm and a b11 but the b11 doesnt get any use because the mistress is too sweet

+1 for the CABS for your lighter duty knife. It got a nice thin edge for processing game and it's not too big for general use. I have a SAR 3 as an EDC as well but still prefer the CABS for a hiking/camping/hunting knife. I'll defer to others when it comes to a chopper but would suggest you try and make it to the NE Ohio lunch this Saturday per ResinGuy's link if you can make it.

I'm with fbusmc the SNFO is a great all around knife and not to heavy. Plus they just look sexy

take a step and get a Boss Jack or take a jump and get a Fusion Battle Mistress or dive in and get 3 cause you will probably get to that number anyway

SFNO or BWM and deff a cabs or even RS from the swamp. The cabs imho is the scariest slicer of em all in the Busse line- and as said above, great for general woodwoork, skinning a grizzly bear, cutting up boxes or I would hate to be on the receiving end of someone angry wielding one. Thats the great thing about Busse and kin- there are several choices- and all the above posts all have validity. As for the smaller knives- I also am in love with the rodent solution. Such a perfect smaller knife/larger handle combo- and you would be a lot better off having that for camping/hiking as the smaller blade versus the warden. Real comfortable handle and makes me think you could work with it for hours if you had to outdoors. GL whatever you choose.

for swamp rat, the rodent solution has a 3.5 inch blade, its 108.95. it seems like a decent in between length. or as mentioned above the howling rat little mischief. i have used none as mentioned im just putting them out there because the blade lengths are between the RMD and the swamp warden.
