What Busse would be most suited for the jungle?

Looks like I may have some trips down South in the near future and everyone knows you need a good chopper to make any progress in triple canopy. I have several field use size Busse's, but alas, no chopper. From those who have tried them all, what would be your pick?

CGFBM
BIBB
After Shock Bolo
Rat Daddy or Battle Rat(my tail is curly, but it has a long straight section at the end :o )
Something cool I don't even know about yet!

I'm tempted to get a CGFBM and have it slightly reprofiled into more of a Bolo.
Help me out here! Give me some suggestions!

the very best would be......

Zero Tolerance Battle Mistress!!!!!!!!

imho

because the blade geometry is perfectly suited for jungle chopping, thinner, light, won't wear you out and very fast to swing, it also came (24) in a black crinkle coat which would help with any corrosion issues although satin shouldn't be a problem anyway.... i like a lil patina with my scotch

Used a bolo 18" machete the times I went to the area waaaaay back when. Would've killed for a "Ruck"

I like the ZTBM Idea... But they are hard to come by, and being a government employee I have somewhat limited resources... Maybe I can work out a trade with one of you Hogs. As for the Ruck Kensai, I hadn't even thought of it. I'll do a search and dig up the specs. Probably made for my exact needs. I'm just used to a Jungle blade being more of a weight forward design, like a bolo. Doesn't mean it's the best though. Thanks for the input so far guys!

winmag,

"RUCK KENSEI"

[ ] Blade = 15"
[ ] Overall Length = 23 1/4"
[ ] Handles = Tan Canvas
[ ] Finish = Desert Camo
[ ] Quantity Available = VERY SMALL!!!!
[ ] Cool Factor = Over the top!!!

Price = $467.00

Well, My decision will probably be made by availabilty. I'll have to decide what I can part with and try to tempt some folks. I think I'm leaning towards the ZTBM. Just seems more practical all around.

well my INFI brother , what ever your choice?...GOOD RUCK with it!:D

and godspeed on your return!

Sorry to play the heretic here, but I'm not sure any Busse is ideally suited for slashing through light vegetation all day. Look at the knives that are actually used in jungle terrain around the world and they are all variations on the theme of a long blade of thin stock: a machete. I bet even a ZTBM is just too stout to swing all day.

I know that the custom shop made a massive machete (the chuckchete I think it was called?) at one point. I bet the jungle foliage would simply move aside when it saw that blade coming!

Since the Rucks are gone, I suggest the AK-47. They're at the store, no waiting required.

with each day, i get more and more excited about the Ruck... The jurry is out on how it will work for jungle clearing, but many have said the AK is not swordy or heavy, but rather slick and swift... the Ruck should prove to be more so...

If you're blazeing trails all day, then buy a ten dollar machete. BUT, if you want to impress the natives and become a sort of jungle superstar...then bring any of the BM line.

Frog, if you read up on jungle operations and jungle guides' reports you'll find almost unanimous favor for a lightweight 7-10" bladed knife. It'll do knife stuf and machete stuff. Jeff Randall (of Ontario RTAK fame) has written extensively on this subject, and his designs reflect the specific needs of the jungle. But, you are fortunate to have a Battle Rat, rather than the RTAK.

Your Battle Rat is the most suitable knife on your list.
You'll need a Howling Rat to perfect the list.

The After-Shock Bolo would be my second choice from your list, but realistically, I think you'll find that Battle Rat handle lends itself better to long term usage. And if you have an After-Shock you have no need for a Zero-Tolerance, as it is the superior knife.

Any Fusion series knife will be too heavy.
The BIBB is a good choice, but I don't think it's as good a choice as the Battle Rat.

My specific recommendation would be:
Battle Rat
Howling Rat
Stainless bladed partially serrated locking folder, not to exceed 5 ounces (emerson, BM, MT, spyderco, could you get a partially serrated rat-trap?...)
Leatherman Xti

I've got a little brown slip that represents a Battle Rat sitting at the PO.
To put my money where my mouth is, I bought it specifically to replace my BIBB as jungle knife.
And yes, I've been to the fun course in Panama.

or in place of all that you just carry a mini-gun and take down the forest a-la predator:thumbup:
