What can a 6" blade do that a 4" blade cannot?

I like a 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 inch knife hunting, camping, chores, etc. The only survival situation I was ever in was during SERE training and all I had was a really poor SAK thing the AF issued us. It did have little paracord cutter that I had ready during basic airborne training or if I ever had to eject, but I never got to use it <g>. All of my chutes came out big and beautiful. Which is a good thing because who knows which cords I would have been cutting trying to fix my chute.

I'm with the folks who vote for the longer knife over the shorter for a primary survival knife. Texas has a 5 1/2 inch limit. I figure any time I'm hunting or camping, etc., it could become a survival situation and having a long sturdy fixed blade plus my SAK would be a good mix.

Perhaps the better question is what can a 4" knife do that a 6" knife can't plus more for the 6". Besides the control thing for some, which is a pretty subjective call.

What knife do I have on me all of the time? A SAK plus a fixed. In town, the SAK and at least a BM 720.

Take care,

Brad
