took my FBM out today and cut some limbs off of an old apple tree, and i have to say this thing can really chop. here's the problem i can't get the sap and wood fiber off of the knife. i've tried WD-40 and 3-n-1 oil and lighter fluid but nothing will take it off. i don't want to use steel wool for fear that it will take off the coating. i am open to any suggestions.

I've not used my FBM, yet - But I used dishwashing liquid, very hot water, and a nylon scrubbing pad to turn the dirty FSH below into the clean FSH below... :o

I do the same... works wonders. Then I wipe it down with mineral oin, and you can hardly see the use.

SUCCESS! worked liked a charm. thank you for the advice. what is the difference between mineral oil and 3-n-1 oil?

Mineral oil is mineral based oil that is safe for ingestion, and will not go rancid like veggie oils.

3 in 1 oil has a small amount of corrosion inhibitor and citronella oil mixed in.

Mineral oil is baby oil without the scent. It is also sometimes used as a laxative, so you know it is safe for use with food. It is the only thing I let touch my knives, carbon steel, INFI, or otherwise.

If you had been cutting an evergreen tree (pine, spruce) then the lighter fluid, mineral spirits, or 3-in-1 oil would have worked on that sap.

A deciduous tree will have a sugary sap, so soap and water should work.
